The DSs (6 and 3) usually get things like:

  • magic flannel
  • small lego set
  • key ring
  • torch
  • choc coins
  • sticker book (I always regret this, as they are shit at peeling the stickers off so i have to help, but I think I just have stickerlarly incompetent children)
  • satsuma
  • pens/pencils/playdough/something crafty
  • wooden ostheimer animal

DH and I generally do little stockings instead of big presents as we are perpetually broke and no one else gives us presents so it's nice to have something to open. I have bought for him in the past:

  • whoopee cushion
  • kitchen knife
  • camping bottle opener
  • frisbee
  • new pens
  • cooking utensils (he likes cooking)
  • scratch card
  • alcohol
  • new hat/gloves
  • cookery book
  • moisturiser
  • tickets to do things with the DC as he looks after them most weekends while I work so it's nice to have something treaty to do.

Mini cereal (great source of excitement for DC).
Comic with maximum amount of plastic freebies on front - this can be invaluable.
Bubble wand?
Helium balloon tied to it if you can obtain and hide it

DH:
Is getting giant gherkins (he loves them...)
Little trial pack of coffee

  • and I'd better look at some other posts actually.

All 3 adults in our house are getting a miniature (5cl) Glenfiddich or Baileys in their stocking. To drink at 5am while watching the DC tear into theirs (stockings, not alcohol). Also some fancy chocs.

minipie · 03/12/2014 16:30

Marking place! DD age 2 is getting her first stocking this year and I'm stuck for ideas, especially as she only recently had a birthday.

So far I like the sound of:

  • Magazine with free tat toys
  • Satsuma
  • Mini cereal
  • Something arty/crafty
  • Puzzle

Off to google magic flannel, never heard of that!

minipie · 03/12/2014 16:30

Oh yes and definitely stickers
