Any suggestions for my niece? I'm struggling to remember what I liked at that age!

Headbanz act up is a brilliant game

Don't say it
Monopoly empire
Cluedo
Frustration

Any sort of game where the outcome relies purely on luck or various lucky outcomes to win - eg you'll never know even as the game progresses!

I have a 10yo DS and this is what he likes.

Ticket to ride (start with Europe map)
Lords of waterdeep
Settlers of catan
Lords of war (brilliant small UK start up) (card based)
Gloom (card based) great for practicing negative numbers
Dominion intrigue variant (cards)

Most of the above were probably not around when you were small. So much more fun than older games

Brilliant, loads of ideas, thank you! We have the Nordic ticket to ride and its great, I hadn't thought of that one. You're right about me being too ancient to know the other ones though, I'll look them up Smile

King of Tokyo is a fun game for kids and adults, a bit of luck and strategy needed to win

LeBearPolar · 02/12/2014 13:46

DS loves Game of Life, Cluedo, Pictionary, Family Trivial Pursuit...

FoxSticks · 02/12/2014 14:12

I like the look of king of Tokyo. I think it might have the right balance of being grown up but not too grown up if you know what I mean?
