Need help picking clothes for DC from MIL for Christmas2

My MiL has very kindly offered to buy the DC new clothes for Christmas. She wants me to choose them from her chosen shop but I want to avoid buying things I like that don't match anything else - this is what I always do so I end up with random tops and trousers that don't match anything!
Any tips? Ideally want everyday stuff that all works together.

I tend to stick to bottoms in denim or neutral colours like black or navy that go with everything for my Daughter and then buy pretty colourful tops to mix and match.

What's the shop and how old/ what gender are the children?

Next - budget of £100 per DC
Ds age 2 but size 3-4
And dd age 14 months size 12-18 months
I'm really stuck with DD as most of her clothes are hand me downs so no idea what to choose.

I had exactly this with my dd and family buying clothes. I now stick to four or five colours and a mixture of leggings, short sleeved and long sleeved tees, tights and denim shits and denim shift dresses. She wears purple, blue, pink, yellow and red and then I have a few white and grey things as well, plus a couple of pairs of jeggings. It's like a toddler capsule wardrobe! (but with lots of items because she can never get through a whole day without getting mucky!). I have a couple of party frocks as well.

If people buy things that don't work, just ask to change them. In my experience people really don't mind and would rather dd has something that will be used.

That's exactly what happened last year so MIL suggested I choose I just end up liking bits that don't go with other bits and I just want to get everything kind of matching so I don't have to stand working out outfits every morning I can just put anything together.

Ah ok we for your ds I'd get a couple of pairs of jeans, brown chinos and dark red chinos. Then a multi pack of long sleeved tops ( as they will be in complimentary colours and tend to be good value). My favourite colours for tops are navy blue, turquoise, maroon or teal. A couple of nice v neck jumpers would be good and a shirt for wearing out over Christmas.

I found/ find for both my girls at that age that the tunics and leggings were really useful. Next do both individual sets and multipacks. It means in the morning you just pull out a set. Both disliked tights so leggings kept them happy. Also means when you take off outdoor shoes they aren't tempted to run round in stockinged feet. Both my girls never really liked jeans though as found them uncomfortable. A gilet is also useful to throw over anything when cold.

Boden do cord/ denim trousers with knee patches on and elasticated waists. Have found they stand up really well to everything but the girls find them comfy. A pair without the knee patches however did not survive. Boden tshirts also good as can mix and match with trousers and if cold use jumper/ gilet.

Also for girls (and probably boys) a soft zipped top (maybe hooded) is always useful as can throw over anything and survive being thrown in bags, cars etc. Next and gap would be where I'd look for those.
