What to buy 2yr old who LOVES horses

DD has just turned two, her latest thing is horses - shouts "horsey" at everything horse shaped. Can anyone suggest a good horse-based toy please, I cant find anything in ELC that jumps out at me and the Happyland stables are going for silly money on Ebay at the moment as I've left it bit late. Thanks for any ideas.

Playmobil my secret pony farm box is around £13 on amazon, hobby horse in the works is £4.99, argos do a pony range with a stable too( barbie sized horses and dolls).

I just wanted to second Schleich, my youngest is two at the end of January and skill very in to chewing on things. My eldest has a massive Schleich animal collection and he has been fine with them.

There is also a horse (another other assorted animals) in the Playmobil 123 barn set.

My just 2 yo is also obsessed. She has had a pony ride and will be signed up to pony classes in spring when it's warmer where parents basically lead them round the ring and you groom the ponies and learn how to be round them. At the local riding school they do this kind of baby class.

For Christmas she is getting a non branded my little pony type thing in her stocking. Cheap crap but she won't know any different.

Have also got her a horse calendar for her bedroom wall. Any more would be going overboard. Her 3yo sister is also obsessed and am aware, having been a horse obsessed child how expensive going overboard could get.

Am never going to buy them an actual pony and am determined to set limits early on. Classes, lessons, the odd trinket at xmas and birthdays. But plenty of non horsey stuff too.

Am aware am already pretty fucked though. Once bitten...

I've got a 2&3 year old so I've not been brave enough to get them scooters yet - I have visions of them racing off in different directions. But the scooter heads, along with everything else has gone on my Pinterest boards for as she gets older as Playmobil is still a bit small & fiddly for her.

5Mad Now your username makes sense Smile I know exactly what you mean - I dont have as many as 5DC but we already have all the usual toys and its so hard to find things that are just for younger DD or activities led by her.

Petite I was totally desperate for a horse as a child but only had the odd lesson - I've not told DP that my dodgy genes could be at fault for giving DD her sudden and mysterious excitment over all things horsey! We live really near a riding school - am so tempted now to pop in to see if they do baby classes!

My DD also 2, loves horseys too! Ive got her a hobby horse for Christmas (head on a stick horse thing) and I spotted some fake 'my little pony's' in the poundstore, she has these now and loves them, small enough for little hands but not all the fiddly bits that come with the bigger sets.. can get a range of different colours too.

I was going to suggest the pasture pals or proper riding lessons (if she's at the nearly 3 end of 2) too.

There's a Melissa and Doug set of horse stamps that horsey dd1 likes, she's also keen on clothes with horses on.

attheendoftheday · 01/12/2014 01:54

Ikea also does a biggish cuddly horse that dd1 likes that was under £10.

i would go for the playmobil, but remove the little bits and pieces, the actual horse figures they do are lovely!

StripedOss · 01/12/2014 10:09

oh, and this, i have this for my dd this year.. she's also horse mad, but a little older at 5, but it might suit a younger child too!

I've just bought DD age 3 a gorgeous purple hoody with a horse on it. Its from boden.
Practical clothing plus it has a horsey on it!

LittleMissSparklyGreenTinsel · 01/12/2014 12:13

DS is horse mad, now 6, he is resigned to receiving pink ponies to feed his obsession!
He has/has had:
rocking horse - along with riding hat (bought 2nd hand on ebay) that he could use when we went to Springfields pony centre
hobby horse
Duplo horse stable
playmobil horses
horse bag and card game from pony Maloney they also sell clothes, bedding etc
horse stampers from Melissa and Doug
Schleich horses
horse hat
horse puppet
Tessie goes trotting pony is this year's acquisition, not great reviews but what he has asked for
this furreal pony

saveahorserideacowboy · 01/12/2014 12:15

My dd is 3 and we do have actual real ponies, lucky her. But I have found the most 'horsey' toy she plays with is actually the wendy house in garden, a plastic bucket and a large stuffed horse. She drags "Boris" about the field (garden), uses the wendy house as his stable and plays at looking after him. She also loves "showjumping" round the garden and I've bought her a set of dog agility jumps for christmas to use!

they have a giant bullseye soft toy in Disney store half price for £20 Grin
