I'm looking for something like a Brio train set but with road markings, cars etc instead. We already have a very small play mat with a road on it, but it is tiny, a bit battered looking, and also inflexible - you can't take it apart and build different maps / routes etc.

The best I've seen of the kind of thing that I have in mind is this www.johnlewis.com/orchard-toys-giant-road-puzzle-20-pieces/p231663352 but I was hoping for something with more pieces.

Sorry, I'm not explaining it very well! But if you understand what I'm thinking of, and know where I might find one, please share Grin I'm either not searching in the right places, or I'm searching for something that doesn't exist.

Brio do road pieces too. They can be expensive though.

Yes we have the Plan wooden road which is compatible with the brio railway track. Can't remember where we got it from. Few years ago now. It's very good.

5madthings · 27/11/2014 16:55

Oh yes and big jigs, they are normally reasonable prices.

I just typed plan toys road into Google and got loads or type big jigs road.

If you search brio compatible road that finds this sort of thing.

WOW - thank you very much! I hadn't thought about using Brio style 'railways' as a road - maybe I should just buy some cars to go on it?! Plan toys and bigkigs are a revelation. I'll definitely have a play around on some of the links that you suggest. The Plan City thing looks great, although possibly more space-intensive than I had first imagined. Time to de-clutter.....

We got a wooden road set from Lidl about a week ago. Very reasonably priced and there may just be some left in your local.
