If you got a Christmas card addressed to the wrong name...

Following on from the getting names wrong thread...

A card has just come through the door from our next door neighbour. She is convinced that DH is called something completely different from his real name. She has been corrected on this in the past (by another neighbour, DH is too polite/soft to tell her himself) but clearly still thinks she is right. What makes it worse is that the wrong name is a derivative of my name - so for example Chris and Christina. And it is absolutely nowhere even close to his actual name.

DH thinks we should send one back saying 'from all at no 32'. I think that is cowardly and we need to tackle the issue head on .

What would MN do?

I would just give them a card with your names clearly written inside and your house number. You could add a jokey 'no one living here by the name of -, you must be mixing DH up with someone else!' But the only way is for DH to hand the card to the neighbour in person and say the above.

I have a cousin who writes the wrong name for DH in Christmas cards, she has no excuse really as she came to our wedding. I put it down to her alcohol issues. There isn't any point in our being bothered as we haven't seen her for years.

I wonder if your neighbour has memory/mental health/alcohol issues which might contribute to the problem?

We called out neighbour the wrong name for years . He was either called Karl and we called him Lee or the other way round . I can't remember. I would have been grateful if he'd put his real name in a Christmas card.

Mind you, DH also complained about the weird people in the house at the back of us to someone who knocked on the door. Turns out - you've got it - it was the man from the house at the back of us.

My neighbour used to call my df Larry instead in Terry.

Larry and Terry is a lot closer than 'neighbours name for DH' and 'DH's actual name'. In fact the only reasons I can think off she has landed on that particular name are 1. He looks like someone she knows called that name 2. I've got a low voice and he is quite high pitched, she has overheard him calling me by the shortened version of my name over the fence and got the voices mixed up 3. As a previous poster suggested, she has memory problems. In fairness she has a lot going on in her life so we won't hold it against her!

DH is coming around to a jokey 'you spelt (DH's actual name) wrong again, pop round for a brew anytime' sort of message!

Just send a card with the correct names on it with the number of your house.

I am always forgetting one of neighbours husbands names, I have no idea why I just do and I'm always chatting to him.

He wouldn't care less if I told him I'd forgotten it.
It's very sweet of your neighbour to write you all a card so just let her know your names and I'm sure she'll forget for next year but so what really.

DH's aunt has put the name of one of DH's cousin's children instead of DD's name more than once on Christmas cards and birthday cards. (It starts with the same letter, so it is an understandable mistake).
We have never said anything about it, although obviously we always write the correct name on cards to her!

I would just send a card back, signed with your and DH names, but not draw attention to it any further, it doesn't really matter after all.
