Just been to bike shop to look for my son's first bike- they let him try a 16'' bumper bike which he promptly fell in love with. I really don't know much about bicycles so I was wondering if anyone knows if bumper bikes are any good before I shell out on it please?

Our DS had a bumper for his 4th birthday and it was great. Lasted him until he grew out of it - at least 2 years I think, maybe more. Later passed on to both younger siblings. Can't remember what size it was.

My DD had a bumper bike for her 4th Xmas too. They're very sturdy and we never had a problem at all with it. I liked the fact that the cross bar was low. It's quite heavy, as are most of the bikes for kids in that price range. If money was no object I would've bought an aluminium frame like an Isla bike.

I'd look at a Ridgeback MX 16 in that price range. Light aluminium frame.
