I'm after ideas Smile

I've been umming and ahhing about getting an elf but have finally decided I will to go with these gorgeous Elfie's ChristmasLetters that I've already got.

These ideas are great. I did see a pic on google when I searched of an elf on the shelf squatting over some biscuits with chocolate frosting under its butt!!

God I'm so excited.

Wrongornot · 14/11/2014 21:34

My favourite was getting Elf inside a balloon and then blowing it up, looked brilliant.

also kept DH and I busy for an entire evening, it is not as easy as it looks

kiwibella · 14/11/2014 21:41

Wrong..... tips for putting an elf in a balloon?

Wrongornot · 14/11/2014 22:05

We have the original Elf, my Dsis sent it from the US, it is huge over there...anyway he has a hard head (Blush) and soft body, you kind of open the end as much as possible and roll carefully down his head before tucking the rest in (that sounds oh so wrong). It is bloody difficult, have lots of balloons and plenty time. Will upload a pic when on laptop rather than phone.

lucysmam · 14/11/2014 22:08

Elf in a balloon sounds like it'd be fun to try! Wonder if the party shop in town might have a giant balloon - might be easier to get him in.

I don't get this elf on a shelf thing

I thought it was just that the elf was supposed to fly off and report to santa overnight on whether the children had been good or bad, and then had a new hiding place every morning (placed by mom obviously hoho how hilarious)

Where does all the naughty elf stuff ideas come into it?

tanya1312 · 15/11/2014 06:44

You don't have to do the naughty stuff it just brings extra fun to it all, we done stuff like turning milk pink, loo roll on Xmas tree, blackboard marker on bathroom tiles and snow angels xx

alien11 · 15/11/2014 08:13

Loads of fab ideas thanks! For the last 2 years our elf Jack has just been in a different place each morning but this year after reading these he ll be getting up to some mischief Grin

Tiredoftiredness · 15/11/2014 08:31

Sorry, but of a hijack but does anyone know where I can get a smallish positionable elf from please?

All I can see online is the creepy original or the fatter stuffed ones. In my head elves are skinny!

carolinecupcake · 15/11/2014 08:54

Shame my kids are too old but I suppose I could play tricks on them. Any ideas for older teens just for a laugh? The banana as a willy made me laugh!!

lucysmam · 15/11/2014 09:06

caroline could you get away with the nose painting (although you might have to stay up later to do that - mine are only small so will be sock on before I go to bed).

Swap cereal for rice? If they eat it.

Coloured milk would go down well with my two - esp if I could get a carton rather than bottle you can see through.

Wrapped up loo?

I saw wrapped up school bags on Pinterest if you could get to them - or individually wrap the contents?

carolinecupcake · 15/11/2014 09:13

Thanks lucy , I could just imagine the look on their face if the milk was green! I think I could maybe manage to keep it up for a week or so! Actually I'm getting quite excited just thinking about it. Sometimes I'm more of a child than they are!

tanya1312 · 15/11/2014 09:17

Search for the film online too, it is lovely Smile

woodychip · 15/11/2014 20:37

lucysmam · 15/11/2014 21:08

ilovemonstersinc · 16/11/2014 09:15

Ahh these are brilliant ideas. Will have to get myself an elf for ds

emmaMBC · 16/11/2014 19:25

Sometimes, just moving him / her to different places helps when you are running out of ideas!!

Ours brings a Christmas book on Christmas Eve. Christmas PJs the week before.

Love the idea of Elf taking selfies on DS / DD's phone - perfect!!!

There's a full guide to The Elf on the Shelf here.

morethanpotatoprints · 16/11/2014 19:58

I think its a brilliant idea tbh.
Mine are grown up now except for dd whose 10.
I mentioned it to her and she loves the idea, but of course at this age she has added a twist.
She is usually a bit too mischievous for her age, bordering on naughty, disrespectful, cheeky, too lippy and now hormonal as well Xmas Grin
So through November the elf is making her do nice, good things and being considerate to others, learning the world doesn't revolve around her.
today and yesterday the elf did the kitchen.
Then during December the elf can get up to some fun.
All her idea, and proves you aren't too old at 10.
