what do you eat on boxing day?

after reading another thread i need to ask this question.

as far as i am concerned boxing day is cold turkey, gammon, cheese, crackers, nice crusty rolls, christmas cake etc etc etc

i was shocked to hear someone say they cook hot meals on boxing day!

so what's the deal in your house?

Nah, we just rerun the Christmas dinner, except that the turkey is cold. We reheat any leftover veg and just cook a little more of anything that got eaten.

Leftovers & sweets.

Bubble and Squeak! Our favourite meal of the whole year!

At my DMs Boxing day dinner is home-made chips (always slightly undercooked) with cold sliced turkey, slices of the ham and hot gravy. It is part of the tradition as is the minor chip-pan fire which she has every year.
As bats as all that sounds, it is fantastic

A mahoosive Buffett of anything and everything. My kids prefer it to actual Christmas dinner

Leftover christmas dinner, cold meat/pickle/cracker buffets and all the cakes/sweets/mince pies etc.

After Christmas day I don't cook for about another 3 days apart from some creative leftover modifications. The best yet has been frying up the last of the roast potatoes, stuffing and pigs in blankets and serving with fried or poached eggs.

We get those part baked rolls to avoid having to go out for bread immediately after Christmas too.

Hopefully a take away because all the family I pretend to like will of fucked off

Leftover turkey, gammon joint, mash, salad and a spread of pickles and chutneys! Prefer it to actual Xmas dinner if I'm honest, and we have been known to have it on Christmas day and skip the whole roast thing!

I think both DH and my families align here on cold meat (ham/turkey/chicken/whatever we had for Xmas Eve and Xmas Day), with chips and peas. Or maybe baked beans. Or egg if it's ham.

And sandwiches with all the leftover cheese and chutney.

Really want to eat that now actually!

Leftover turkey, fried up quickly with some onions/shallots, then stirred through cooked pasta with some mayo and chopped mango, and lots of salt and pepper. much nicer than it sounds, and a firm favourite in this house.

Another full on Christmas dinner with different relatives.

We have jacket spuds with cold meats and pickles etc as we have the inlaws over for Boxing Day every year and DMIL always rings up a few days beforehand with her orders of "oh don't go to any bother, just pop some jacket spuds in the oven for us and that'll be lovely" not sure if it still irritates me or I find it funny now ......
We also have Christmas pudding as no one has room for it on Christmas Day!

We go to DHs parents and have a buffet type affair with things like sandwiches, pizza, sausage rolls etc.

On Boxing day we like to have aromatic style duck with pancakes, hoisin, sliced veg and rice.
We would have cold cuts with pickles and jams throughout the Xmas period.

This year it's going to be Christmas dinner no.2 with my dad an his wife (who's working on Christmas Day), having had Christmas dinner no.1 with my mum and her husband the day before.

We always have another 3 course meal usually a gammon joint but lamb, pork and beef have been known to make an appearance

I am doing a buffet for 14 on boxing day. So a ham, new potatoes, salad, quiche,smoked salmon. prawns, cheese- not quite decided on the final items.

Roast goose and all the trimmings - it's Christmas Day take two at the inlaws! I actually prefer it to the 25th, although 22 round MILs table is getting rather cramped

Bubble and squeak with slices of leftover ham and eggs for brunch.

Usually a leftovers sarnie late afternoon - turkey, ham, stuffing and cranberry sauce in a warm baguette

Cheese board and snacky bits in the evening.

Definitely no proper cooking!

All the leftovers plus Bubble Jackets... which are jacket potatoes with the middle scooped out and then mixed up with chopped up leftover sprouts and other veg, plus loads of cheese, then stuffed back in the skins and crisped up in a hot oven. They are amazing, especially with pickles/chutney and a sausage roll!

Usually it's leftovers or buffet food however this year we are going out for a meal. I cater for 15 on Christmas Eve and 9 on Christmas Day. I have 2 DC plus DSS and work until 3 pm Christmas Eve and back day after Boxing Day. I love doing it all but honestly can't wait to not have to do it all on Boxing Day this year!

Definitely not another proper hot meal!

Everyone helps themselves to breakfast from the fridge, bits are picked at throughout the day, & there's a late lunch/early tea buffet type meal consisting of bubble'n'squeak with any leftover veg, a platter of all the leftover meats (as meat-eating in-laws off home usually after BD tea), lots of onion bhajis, samosas etc as we're all a bit fed up with Trad Brit by then, & a couple of massive bowls of salad.

If the gannet:food ratio is looking dicey I supplement with lots of potato wedges & a few garlic breads to carb the buggers into submission.

Boxing day will be quite formal in our house this year. I am having 10 for xmas day then 15 for boxing day, including MIL ( think Hyacinth Bouquet from Keeping up Appearances) so posh food and best behaviour!!
