What do you prefer?

Last year we had white which I thought I prefered but I felt maybe it didn't feel as fun or cosy?

Multi coloured always, white look sterile and dull.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 11/11/2014 14:19

ceral they are lovely.

nemno · 11/11/2014 14:24

Both, on the same tree. Then you can choose which set to turn on depending on mood.

To the poster who likes a slow twinkle, that can be achieved with lights that have multiple settings.

I've been thinking about this too, as I've always had white but now I have a toddler DD I'm thinking maybe a turn back to traditional multicolour is in order....

I had white when it was considered "tasteful" and everyone had multicoloured. Now everyone has white and I'm a bit bored with it and feel like a bit of retro 70s is in order. The trees of my childhood always had pastel multicoloured lights, and of course those 70s decorations - foil bells and baubles, tinsel and so on (and wrapped parcels and tartan bows in the 80s, glass baubles in the 90s...) I normally do super-tasteful boring Scandi chic, all grey felt stars and so on, but I feel that toddlers really deserve some kitsch. Have got my parents' old multi lights from when they went upmarket and got white, so I'm thinking about rehabilitating those....

My workplace installed a Xmas tree last year and put flashing blue LED icicle lights on it. The whole office had migraines by the end of the day. Horrible!

SnowInWinter · 13/11/2014 10:48

Have always had white lights on both trees, but really do love the coloured lights reminds me of our childhood tree in the 80's.

I am changing colour scheme for the second tree (yes I am a tree snob!) this year so may go all out for traditional/retro 80's, where anything goes and coloured lights, (but not led as they are too bright).

Dreams your tree is gorgeous....exactly as I pictured!

Everythingwillbeok · 13/11/2014 13:05

Warm white here too.i have them set to slowly dim them come back on rather than flash

Everythingwillbeok · 13/11/2014 13:09

Although the children like coloured so I have another tree on the landing with coloured lights on as well for them.

Quenelle · 13/11/2014 13:15

We used to have white lights and tasteful(ish) decs but not any more. I like a big, real tree, with lots of coloured lights and as much stuff as we can cram onto it. It's much more jolly.

BlinkingHeck · 13/11/2014 13:19

I have red berry lights on my tree, I decorate with traditional and fun decorations - Santas, Robins etc

WreckTheHalls · 13/11/2014 13:26

We do LOADS of white ones, some static and some flashing.

I like coloured lights, though. Reminds me of our tree growing up.

Who cares if theyre 'naff'? I always think perfectly put together shop-display looking trees at home are more naff to be honest - too try hard.

Its Christmas, not an interior design competition!

popcornpaws · 13/11/2014 13:35

Multicoloured, it is a family joke that i have more decorations and lights than everyone else put together, I've tried every combination and colour possible.
The year i put just white lights on the tree it lasted two days and i stripped it and took off the boring white lights and put on the multicoloured ones (twinkling not flashing though)
And decorations should be bought over the years and every year when they are brought out my dd cringes at the ones i still put up that she made in nursery, (she is at uni now)
No poncy colour schemes in this house!

Housesoftheholy · 13/11/2014 13:57

I am loving hearing about everyone's trees Grin

I agree.

Multi coloured and tinsel are not naff, they were naff in some settings but with modern setting etc and better decs. they are not naff.

Billoddiesbeard · 13/11/2014 20:06

White LEDs all the way.......luverly

I adore your tree, its beautiful and all the other decor but I would go for slighlty smaller glower lights

TwoNoisyBoys · 14/11/2014 17:43

This is my tree in the back living room - It's all white lights, but three different types......led twinkly, static glass, and static berry. I LUFFS it! Smile

(From last year, I hasten to add - I haven't put it up this year yet!!)

Clutterbugsmum · 14/11/2014 17:47

White and lots of them.

BettyFocker · 14/11/2014 17:54

Any colour so long as it's white.

Grin

TwoNoisyBoys, your tree is gorgeous!

We go for a warm white here. No twinkling but I don't mind twinkling lights.

My childhood tree was multicoloured "flower" type lights (no idea what that type is actually called), multicoloured mismatched bulbs collected over the years, and multicoloured tinsel. Lots and lots of it. My parents still do it exactly the same now. I have fond memories of helping to decorate the tree but it's definitely like a rainbow threw up on it.

BettyFocker · 14/11/2014 17:54

Bulbs! I means baubles!

TwoNoisyBoys · 14/11/2014 17:58

Thank you Betty Smile I love it, and my favourite thing to do when the boys are in bed is to just sit and stare at it..... (preferably with a glass of something festive in my hand!)

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 14/11/2014 18:05

We put up both.. white and multicoloured. Then I either put on one string or the other... or both if we're feeling very festive. Grin

socially · 14/11/2014 18:09

Multicoloured and lots of them.

If it ain't camp, it ain't Christmas in this house....

pilates · 14/11/2014 18:22

White lights for me.

MissLivvy · 14/11/2014 18:25

For the past couple of years we've had masses of red berry lights on a real tree. Got the idea from the trees on Champs Élysées some years ago. They looked stunning as every branch and twig covered, it's was the large number of lights that added to the effect. Otherwise plenty of warm white lights, not LED or bluish tinged ones.
