What do you prefer?

Last year we had white which I thought I prefered but I felt maybe it didn't feel as fun or cosy?

Love coloured lights.

We have white fairy lights in lounge all year so coloured make it like Christmas.

i bought some coloured led ones as an extra set with my more trad coloured ones.

They overpowered the trad ones so much, make the tree look black. Horrible effect. dd liked them, but i am going to get an extra set of coloured normal ones this year. They just glow, and make lovely reflections in the baubles.

DillydollyRIP · 11/11/2014 10:08

I prefer warm white tree lights.
When I was growing up we had multi coloured, plastic floral shaded tree lights and foil baubles.

White lights which twinkle! Down with tinsel and blue lights. Vom.

KatoPotato · 11/11/2014 10:16

Dilly! My Dsis and I still have a foil bauble like that each from or family xmas tree!

Things that can be naff aren't always naff, though, are they. It's possible to do something very well and then it's beautiful regardless of silly 'rules' like that. And surely what matters is that the individual loves it and finds joy in it.

Housesoftheholy · 11/11/2014 10:34

I agree holger and it really is a matter of personal taste. I want it to look homely and cosy and not sure which does that for me most.

I think this is important to me this year as its my first Christmas Day just ds and I at home together. We usually go to my parents and i want to create our own Christmas this year.

'Warm' white ones here. I use two sets in different sizes - 360 tiny ones and 240 bigger ones on the big tree and we have to use battery sets on the hall tree because we don't have a socket near by [annoyed face].

chillychicken · 11/11/2014 11:16

White lights on both trees here. Static warm white ones on the tree in the lounge and gentle flashy ones on the tree in the hallway. Blue-ish white ones on the tree outside.

Dreams!! That tree!! That room! That's my idea of heaven. I love that wallpaper. My house is painted white because its so small and I'd love a good bit of chintz but DH has vetoed it. sob!

JazzAnnNonMouse · 11/11/2014 12:35

Warm white

DreamsOfFreddieInTheNight · 11/11/2014 13:04

Thank you! But the second tree is not mine, had to Google for that pic!

The first is mine from last year! Thanks vitch- everyone I know has tasteful white light trees but I do like a bit of colour at Christmas!

DreamsOfFreddieInTheNight · 11/11/2014 13:05

I apologise for all the! Exclamation! Marks!

Housesoftheholy · 11/11/2014 13:15

Multicoloured white or plain ones just dont look Christmasy. I dont like public ones that are all one colour.....so boring to drive round a high street with generic white...

A house at the end of my road put their lights up for Halloween, they are multicoloured but with a lovely blue one in there as well.

MindReader · 11/11/2014 13:33

We always had coloured filament lights as a child.

My first Christmas away from home (living with my then boyfriend) I made my first Christmas tree with white lights.

My mother took it personally, and never put her tree up again Shock

But your tree is tasteful! Colour doesn't = tacky.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 11/11/2014 13:38

dreams

what type of tree did you get, its a nice shape?

CiderwithBuda · 11/11/2014 13:54

We do both. Tasteful white on main tree and multicoloured in tree in dining area off kitchen. That was white too but we tried colours last year and it was so much more evocative of Christmas trees from when I was little.

Trying to decide what to do outside this year. Seem to always get lights that sections randomly die on.

this is ours from last year

I was unsure about reading this thread, as I've been pondering the very same questions for a few weeks. I purchased my new tree - it was half price, I just had to - a few weeks ago and have been wandering around undecided about lights since.

I had white LED lights on the mantel last year and they were too bright, so I have decided on warm white lights for the tree, with coloured lights for the mantel.

Decision made! Thanks. Grin Where is the santa hat?

DreamsOfFreddieInTheNight · 11/11/2014 14:04

It's a real tree, I can't remember the type as I got it from the garden centre based on height- iI was a non dropping sort. Love the smell of a real tree.

Thank you for your kind comments, I'll post a link to the lights I have when I get home. Xmas Grin

dawntigga · 11/11/2014 14:08

Both, a Christmas tree should look like the Bad Taste Fairy vomited it up and deposited it fully formed a la Athena. Anything else, just isn't Christmas.

I like these as they remind me of my childhood xmas trees
