Dd6 asked for a mummy and daddy penguin two weeks ago.
Then out comes the JL advert with Monty and Mabel.
Dd has just pointed out to me that the daddy has a grey tummy and the mummy a white one on the ad.
Looking online they both look the same.Confused

Because the boy one is old and mucky from all his adventures and the girl is fresh and shiny new...!!

Myearhurts · 10/11/2014 20:44

The large Mabel penguin is £95!

NINETY FIVE POUNDS!!

I wouldn't pay that for a real penguin!

Myearhurts · 10/11/2014 20:47

Look. I can get a real one for $25!

Warning: I suspect there might be some animal welfare issues at play here. Also it doesn't say if the P&P is included.

PesoPenguin · 10/11/2014 20:48

It's not even a nice looking you!

PesoPenguin · 10/11/2014 20:48

*toy

bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 10/11/2014 20:49

It's not even overly nice!! The power of advertising eh?!? It's sold out too!

The white company do a gorgeous penguin I am lusting after, and after seeing the price if the John Lewis one I think I can justify a mere £45

lemisscared · 10/11/2014 20:51

No way would i buy one of those. Id start bleating!!!

MsAspreyDiamonds · 10/11/2014 20:52

Someone on another thread suggested buying the penguins drom London zoo online as a cheaper alternative.

PesoPenguin · 10/11/2014 20:53

Oh my days Myearhurts they make them sound like sea monkeys!!( p&p is included as it says you only pay shipping but sadly they are sold out!)

IgnoreMeEveryOtherFuckerDoes · 10/11/2014 20:54

check on eBay to see how much mugs are bidding for them to really make your eyes water.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 10/11/2014 20:58

Or even better adopt a penguin for only 35 pounds.

Just realised I'm having this conversation with Peso. Grin

I was a bit dubious about some of the text on the site. I particularly winced at this bit.

Quote: If your Penguin get's ill in any way. Local vetrinary clinics can easily treat them, as there body structure is very similar to most mammals.

I might try that at my local Vets if I can't get an appointment at my GPs.

lilyloo · 10/11/2014 21:06

Dd asked before the ad came out unfortunately.
£95 Shock

Vets are allowed to treat humans, Doctors aren't allowed to treat animals - at least so I heard.

poolomoomon · 10/11/2014 22:17

The extra large ones are £95, the smallest one is £12. All sold out online though! People are now paying through the nose on eBay, crazy... I don't think they look that great as penguins go either. Sass and Belle sell a make your own penguin kit for a fiver, I think that ones cuter! Or the Melissa and Doug one.

ImNotReallyHere · 10/11/2014 22:19

DD already had penguin on her list as obsessed with them. You can adopt at WWF for a minimum of £36 a year (but get cuddly toy).

Guitargirl · 10/11/2014 22:22

I have bought a small Monty and Mabel for 12 pounds. Yes, yes, I know, I have already been called gullible on another thread...

They are a bit, um, unusual looking as penguins go but oh, so soft Xmas Grin.

I love love love the JL advert but as I said to my husband 'I'll buy a monty when they are in the charity shops in the summer'
