What can I get DH?

He is SO difficult to buy a present for. He is fussy about clothes (though a cashmere jumper hit gold last year), doesn't do aftershave much, doesn't drink and shouldn't eat sugar - diabetic. He likes a good read but we have just got the last two Shardlake books on kindle and as we have busy lives this will take a while. He is a keen cyclist and likes music but he introduces me to music, I wouldn't know what to get. Anyone got any ideas? Gifts that have gone down well with your difficult-to-buy-for menfolk? Thank you!

spotify premium sounds perfect for my impossible to buy for boyfriend. is it subscribed for a year after the free trial period or can cancel anytime? also how do you get it without them finding out if registered to their details? obvious i dont know what im doing? Blush

EElisavetaofBelsornia · 09/11/2014 23:43

Such brilliant ideas, thank you all! I am a bit spoilt for choice now, I may save some of these up for birthdays and anniversaries. Grin

So far I am loving Spotify Premium, (seconding all of happsymum's questions about how to make it a surprise though) swanky Rapha gear, the Japanese knife, the dinky Swiss knife and yes yes Lee Stewart tickets, DH loves him. Hat, gloves and cordless drill also possibilities. Keep these suggestions coming and I will be sorted for ideas for many years to come!

was with the boyfriend so got rushed out before could look at what else they had so maybe others too...

How about something personalised? I got a great family caricature for DH from this place last year. You could get one to put in a frame or on a t shirt or something? facebook.com/babyface.caricatures
Otherwise, does he have a cycle computer? (I don't know if anyone else has mentioned that already!) DH asked for one of those recently too! Smile

YaMasYaDaWithAWigOn · 10/11/2014 20:01

I got my DP some Google Cardboard virtual reality goggles for our anniversary, they went down well. And for Christmas I've got him a box set of really hot sauces from Amazon (Psycho Juice) and some new trainers. Also got him some comedy DVDs from the DC.

thatsn0tmyname · 10/11/2014 20:07

Could you buy yourselves a subscription to Netflix or similar? Or, a little something to open plus some money and a day off so he can go clothes shopping?

happsymum · 11/11/2014 01:26

Damselnotinherdress thank you! docking station is an idea that totally slipped me! will get one on payday then ive done his 'main' pressy. YAAAY! big sigh of relief

DamselNotInHerDress · 11/11/2014 09:10

Happysmum I was really pleased with myself for thinking about it, he's hard to buy for we tend to buy things as and when we want them rather than waiting for Christmas/birthdays but he's been moaning since we got the new phones that we haven't got one.
If possible, get one with Bluetooth as then it doesn't matter if you upgrade, it will be compatible with any Bluetooth device. I think.

TwigletLola · 11/11/2014 10:28

So far I've got DP a new bottle of One Million aftershave because his has run out, a wireless headset for his PS4 so we can watch TV together and a t-shirt folder like the one Sheldon has in the Big Bang Theory. For his stocking I've got him a lip-shaped toothpaste winder, Mr Perfect Mr Men mug, personalised iPhone case and fluffy socks from Joules. Also going to get him some beard oil, a tube of Smarties, Christmas tree decoration and an expanding flannel. Might get him the Jersey Boys DVD too if his parents haven't already got it.

Bohemond · 11/11/2014 10:34

Agree with Agent - SONOS is the way to go. I bought DP a few bases last year and we now listen to music all the time (he always did on his ipod but can now share it with me). You can play Spotify through it as well as digi radio stations plus the music you already have.

clr2014 · 11/11/2014 10:42

ah, was just coming onto say my dh has asked for a docking station will good quality speakers...someone beat me to it. Great ideas here.

StrangeGlue · 11/11/2014 14:24

Dab radio for car? Best thing we ever bought!

EElisavetaofBelsornia · 11/11/2014 23:18

TwigletLola - please can you explain the beard oil? DH is the owner of relatively new beard, as far as I know there has not been any oiling so far. It sounds like a possibility!

TwigletLola Can you tell me more about the tshirt folder? thank you!

tess73 · 12/11/2014 14:37

Strangeglue can you tell me more about the DAB radio for the car. Our radio constantly loses signal i have pretty much given up on it.

DH will be getting accessories for his Big Green Egg (bbq thing), aftershave box set, slippers, some random DVD... need some more ideas!

munchkinmaster · 13/11/2014 09:38

Can anyone help me please? I was going to get other half a real ale beer club but don't know which to choose.

Also some trainers. He has bought dune before but they are terrible quality. What brands do the (cough) mid thirties wear. I would rather have leather grown up/non sporty ones.

I'm also doing magazine subscriptions and will check out the Neil gaiman book up thread.

WienerDiva · 13/11/2014 09:45

Hoping for inspiration!!! Was thinking a show, aftershave etc but I'd like to get home something a bit special this year.

tomatok · 14/11/2014 11:13

Mentioned on another thread that I've got my husband a couple of light books. Anything weighty tends to get ignored or forgotten - but these look like they'll provide a bit of fun on the day (and keep him away from choosing what's on tv). Remember that a lot of gifts like shows/vouchers are great, but on the actual day you can't do anything but look at them for 5 seconds :) so I always throw in books that can be read on the day and with jokes etc that can be shared:

How to Make Your Cat an Internet Celebrity - because he doesn't like the cat, and will enjoy the thought of it supporting us financially www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1594746796

The Christmas Football Quiz Book, Joke Book, Fact Book - because he loves football and this looks to be a fun, safe choice (i.e. not about a player he may or may not like for totally irrational reasons) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1503016986/

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 14/11/2014 11:34

From DS and I:

Ghost hunt voucher
Sports massage voucher
Jelly beans
Chocolate coins
Tee
WalletShock

Munchkinmaster, DH likes Next trainers

EmGee · 14/11/2014 11:46

To the poster upthread who bought her DH a Dad's Army t-shirt, where was it from?
Thanks!

emmelinelucas · 15/11/2014 16:01

I got the t shirt from Funkyzilla.com

They have a great selection, and the quality seems excellent. Nice printing, although I havent washed it yet. Came within days, too.
