What to by a girl of 16?

That's it really - I have two girls of 16 and one of 17 to buy for, what do I get for about £30? (I have bought some stocking bits, Alexa Chung book, a little necklace etc) was thinking of Zara for a big scarf or necklace - make-up??? Do I buy a brand and spend £18 on a mascara or not??

What would they love? (and would earn me 'cool' points'!) I'm going to have to venture into Urban Outfitters aren't I???

We need more of a clue than just their age!

It's like saying "what do you buy for a woman of 39?".

Do you know them? Do you have any idea what their interests might be, or can you find out somehow?

Sorry!! I know exactly what you mean - I they are all very into fashion, want to be 'cool', quirky I guess but mainstream at the same time… (does that make any sense?)

I've just added an Urban Decay Naked Palette to my basket for one (I know the other two who are sisters both have them).

I guess I am looking for the kind of things that will make them ooh and ahh rather than being boring.

Sorry, that was very muddled! Last year I bought the sisters (my nieces) lots from Anthropologie when I was in the US (it's no much cheaper there) notecards with text in Neon, mugs with their initials, Burts Bees tinted lip balm the one 'main' present - one had a mixed compact from Mac the other a map ( this one which she loved if anyone is interested!!)

I think I must have spent well over what I normally do (I got the bits in NY then the big things at home and never really added it all up!)

I think it's just that they were so happy last year I wondered if anyone that has daughters of that age could tell me what they are coveting.

I looked at TD in Selfridges yesterday but I think it is too expensive for a piece that I think might be too 'out there' for them.

I think they are all over Jack Wills - is Gilly Hicks off the radar for that age? I bought lovely underwear there last year for one of them….

My girls are 13,14 and 16. They are having tech stuff, the 16 year old is also having a coffee themed hamper - she is just starting to drink coffee so I got her a personalised Starbucks mug and voucher, book on latte art, milk frother, flavoured coffee etc. would something like that appeal? I've also got deco patch stuff, cool cushions and stuff for their rooms - lava lamps and similar. I find the Jack wills stuff ( or whoever is popular) can be hard to choose so I generally make a nod to it with toiletries on the 3 for 2 at boots.

Looking for ideas for dsd, so far I have got her a load of body shop bits ( bought in a sale ) and I have got her a microwaveable fox ( heat pillow ) from tk max, havn't got a clue what else to get, she likes cath kidston, jewellery and I don't know what else.

I like the coffee idea, I'm going to find out if dsd drinks coffee or maybe hot chocolate .

Benefit have got some lovely gift sets and pallettes which work out better value than individual bits , Glossybox or Birchbox subscriptions (often turn up on Groupon/Livingsocial etc. ) might be an idea if they're into make-up or skincare .

Some brilliant ideas - I always forget about Boots and I can do some 3 for 2's there. I have never heard of Glossybox but think that could be perfect for my nieces - I can give them the little bits I have already bought then do them a six month subscription - thank you yaffle.
I then have the Urban Decay palette for my friend's daughter.
