10yr old wants clothes for Christmas - makes me feel weird?

DS will be almost 11 at Christmas. I think he has just about given up believeing in Father Christmas. I've asked him to do a Christmas list anyway. He can't really think of anything (and doesn't really need anything). He's asked can he have a leather jacket as he has seen Steven Gerrard wearing one and he looks really cool (apparently).

I've had a browse and it'd probably cost me about the same as I usually spend on the "main" present, but it just feels weird! I'll obviously buy a couple of board games, some small lego/halo sets if I can get any on offer etc but it just seems really sad (for me - like end of an era stuff).

Is it "normal" for 10/11 year olds to ask for this kind of thing?

Yes, I think it is, I know exactly what you mean, my dd aged 10 wants clothes, make-up, perfume and, well, the kind of things I would like myself.
It is sad to not be putting the latest Disney doll in the stocking as I have until now, and the colouring books and pens but those days seem to have come to a sudden end. They grow up so fast, I am sure at 10 I still wanted dolls but to be honest I don't really remember. I guess at 10/11 they are starting to have a small independence, going to school disco's maybe, hanging out with friends and they begin to really notice clothes.

Check h&m for a leather jacket, I got one for my 19yr old brother last year and was really reasonable and complimented :)

Dreading no disney bits under the tree, Santa hopefully exists forever here! Think my daughter might pretend for ever even when doesn't believe that's my hoping anyway

My DS1 is 10 on Monday and he's only asked for a couple of toy things for his birthday/Christmas. It's clothes here too - mainly football/sports stuff.

I feel like his 'pile' will be rubbish as his little brother is still at the toys stage and clothes just can't compete with boxes when wrapped. But that's what he wants.

Ds1 is no longer my little boy, he's my medium sized boy (and almost as tall as me!).

Oh and, if I do get him the leather jacket...the practical part of me would want him to have it straight away to get maximum wear out of it (since he grows inches seemingly overnight). I'd need to refrain from that wouldn't I and wrap it up the same as any other Christmas present - yes?

Would he know it wasn't leather as some nice leather look ones around.

Although just looked up the size guide...I think it only fges up to age 12/60 inches and he'd 5ft 2 now. Will have a look round the site though to see if they do teenage sizes in that.

Yes sounds about right.

Although some things I think just adapt. Ie a 5 year old you might buy a giant box of crayons pens, a 10 year old will still like art supplies but more refined ie stadtler fine liners, or pastels/ charcoal/ canvas which will always be needed throughout secondary school anyway.

Oh and dh is almost 30. He brought himself a fancy build it yourself remote control car recently. Costs a fortune, but means they no one ever really grows out of toys, they just get more fiddly ( and usually more expensive!)

My dds are 9 and 10 and get a whole new wardrobe every spring and autumn.
They still ask for clothes for Christmas and birthdays! They love clothes. No idea where they get it from as neither dp nor I are remotely into fashion!
So I don't feel sad About buying him the jacket if it's what he really wants :)

My 12y dd wants dr dre headphones . It's just not the same any more. Her advent calendar is a boots no 7 one instead of playmobil.

Fortunately I have a 1yo nephew who I've just enjoyed buying happy land toys for and have 5y and 8y nieces who might still like toys!
