Does this list sound ok for 1yo?

I think I've finished buying for dd. She will be 1 on 22nd Dec so I've finished her birthday presents too. Does anyone mind having a quick look and seeing if it seems enough? I know she's a baby but obviously I've not really done this before so I'm a bit clueless Grin

So for her birthday I've got:

4-in-1 trike
Mega Blocks
Wooden tea set
Nesting eggs
Happyland London bus

Christmas:

Wooden rocking horse (a small retro type one which is basically like a seat with a horse head at the front, if that makes sense!)
Happyland train set
Wooden music set
Knitted christmassy all-in-one
Sheepskin booties

Also got some squirty rubber sea creatures, swimming duck and dolphin and a water whirly thing for the bath, some flashing sensory balls and small wooden ambulance, fire engine and police car. These will all go in her stocking as they are small toys.

Does this sound enough? Saying 'enough' does sound a bit stupid as she will be 1 and not care but I'm still anxious about it. I feel like she's missing something like some books but I'm sure someone else will get her some.

Would you buy anything else?

I think that sounds a lovely list. I guarantee she'll have more fun playing with the paper and the boxes than the actual toys, but it seems like a good combination of things.

That is plenty. The more money you spend on her this year, the less you will have next year when she is a bit older and will be more excited. Tbh she will probably be more excited about the wrapping paper , boxes and shiney Christmas decorations than the toys. Shiney things are exciting after all Smile

You have the same "issue" as me - DS is a January baby so we wanted to make sure he had a good variety of toys to see him through the year. He'll be 2 in January and your list would have done him well.

Do you have wooden jigsaws? DS loves his. No doubt she'll get loads from friends / relatives though!

That seems loads to me. We bought dd a wheelybug and a Gruffalo touch and feel book for her Xmas just after she was one.

Very generous of you and if you can afford it, marvellous, just don't feel obliged to buy tons and tons of stuff.

Oh yes and i did do a stocking. Chocolate coins, tangerine, bath squirters, notepad and crayons and think that was it. We were on hols so we just took the stocking.

Bloody hell, Felix! That's loads.

DD will be 1 in early January and I haven't even thought about her birthday presents yet! For Christmas she has Megablocks and some smaller things (bath toys etc). That's about it. She'll be inundated with stuff from other people.

She'll probably just eat play with the paper anyway.

That all sounds lovely and the toys you've chosen should suit her well through out the year too, I got dd some Christmas books for her 1st Christmas last year and to be honest we've not looked at them since January so I've wrapped them up again for this year

I'm glad it sounds ok and a good variety. I wasn't sure if it was too little or if id gone overboard Grin

I think if any family asks what to get her I'll ask for a wooden jigsaw and some books.

We've made M an amazon wishlist to send to any family who ask. On it are some smallish toys (£5 to about £20), books and pyjamas.

I am a bit nuts and super organised so needed to get it finished before it drove me crazy! She played with a box for a good half an hour this morning so I'm not very hopeful Hmm

My DS has a birthday within a week for Christmas. We got the happyland train set last year when he was two so that might be one to open on the day then put away till after the summer.

My LO just turned one and we got the bus for her, still a bit young but I think it will be a hit, she loves the little people.

That sounds way too much to me, I would have thought the rocking horse was enough for her birthday, and just one big present and a couple of small ones would be enough for Christmas.

At one year, babies are usually more interested in the wrapping paper than the presents anyway, and don't notice how many/few presents they get.

Why are you anxious about it not being enough? Your Dd won't judge you, so I assume you are afraid of being judged by competitive, materialistic friends or relatives.

Love is not measured by how much money you spend, your Dd will be thrilled with whatever you get her if you take the time to play with her.

I've just bought the happyland stuff today after reading on here that people really rate the train set and bus. They are ones that should hopefully last her a while.

ELC have 20% off all toys online at the moment including sale items so I got them really cheap, if anyone else is after some! (I also used a 20% birthday code I got from Mothercare for ELC toys so worth seeing if anyone has one spare they aren't using) Smile

Red I've tried to get things which will last her the year (and longer) as she has her birthday and Christmas so close together. I won't be buying any more toys through the year and I've asked for clothes/pyjamas for her from the majority of our family, so I don't think it's too much.

Not sure what the anxiety is about. I don't have any friends or family with babies to compare to! I think I'm just anxious about getting it right and making sure she's not going to grow out of everything within a few months.

Ha. My DS is one on the 20th and I have been having similar gift angst! Your list looks similar to mine (in size/content) although I hadn't thought of doing a stocking this year- might steal that!

I've also got a rather large box stuffed with crinkly paper that I think he'll enjoy!

My first reaction was 'Wow, that's far too much', but my second was that you and she will have a really lovely time playing with all of it!

I think every child needs something to ride, something to 'cook' with and something to brmm along the floor, so you have it pretty much covered.

Mine are teenagers and have just protested that I can't give away their Duplo and train sets, so yes, I think it'll have lasting appeal.

I don't think that sounds loads, sounds a nice amount with variety.

My dd has a December birthday so I've got her things that will last her the year in terms of development. I've also thought of different things I will enjoy playing with her. I've bought her some board books.

People always trot out the stuff about more interested in the wrapping, but the wrapping isn't going to entertain her every day for the next six months like a Happyland bus will! You have to be careful of them eating the stuff anyway, give them the safe plastic objects I say.

Better for language that they can pick up a toy train and you say "Yes! A Train!" Rather than "yes, another box!".

My ds was ten months at his first Christmas and was very much interested in his toys btw, and still plays with the Happyland stuff now at 3.5.

I think it sounds plenty, but actually, I would buy a book or two. You can never have too many and it's a nice tradition to start. Ds (5) gets a book set from the book people for every Christmas and birthday. You could inscribe it with a message about her first Christmas too x x

Its fine. Predictably though youll get plenty saying theyre getting their children an old cardboard box to share between them for christmas and a stocking with a single satsuma in it each.

We have a one year old and we got hm two things. A dump truck and scuttlebug.

This is mainly because for his birthday he got musical instruments, a cosy coupe car, traditional rocking horse, baby laptop and three other battery operated big toys and huge little tikes sandpit.

These were gifts frm us and family and I think it is too much really.

He already has mega blok etc and other bits and pieces. I don't think they need very much.

That seems an awful lot to me! At one they have no real concept of birthday or Christmas and are usually more interested in the packing. If you can afford all these lovely things, why not give one or two on the days themselves and save the others to give during the next few months to spread out the pleasure?

Hope you've got plenty of space for it all OP, don't forget family and friends will shower her with gifts too! We had too much last Christmas so we held some toys back to introduce a couple of months later which worked well. A one year old can only cope with so much stuff at a time. I'd also agree with the pp who said books are a must have on any birthday or Christmas list. At this age the 'that's not my' range is ideal.
