So what are you all getting for your elderly relatives?

Trying to think of what to get DM - she is 83 and still lives in her own place, but is getting older IYSWIM.

I have done hampers, plants, books, DVD's... can do them again, of course, but I just wondered if there are any new and wonderful ideas out there!

An outing? For afternoon tea or to a local National Trust. Theatre or cinema?

I second taking her out somewhere for afternoon tea or NT property

I'm getting my gran some lovely chunky thick totes/ slipper socks to keep her feet toasty :)

An outing would be great. But we live 200 miles away and don't get up there all that often (have just been) and I'd like her to have something for Christmas IYSWIM! And she is in a NT group (plus others!) and goes on afternoon tea type trips quite a lot!

Slipper socks or bedsocks could be good - I saw her wearing some socks while we were up.

One of the things my mum (who has dementia) has loved in the past is a photobook of our year with captions. I keep trying to do a family history one for her as well, but haven't managed to finish it.

My dad loves an Andre Rieu DVD, and a box of cherry brandy chocs.

I've also bought Slankets, lovely fleece dressing gown, heated cushion from Lakeland and a scooter cape for dad.

I was thinking about that CMOT - thanks for reminding me. And a heated cushion could also be good!

My Mum (70) is getting theatre vouchers (she goes to watch ballet around the country several times a year), a Jacques Vert top I found in the sale, a travel cup/tub set in a Cath Kidston ballet print (for ballet trips), a No.7 lipstick (from the colour match service), and some L'Occitane lavender fragrance spray (she loves lavender and I had a L'Occitane voucher).

My Granny (94) is getting some No.7 skincare (she loves it) and a bag of Thorntons chocolate ginger (the worst chocolate ever, she is the only person in the world who likes it!).

LikeSilver, my DM loves chocolate gingers too! Maybe it's a thing from the war. Or before?

Things I've got my mum (who's 78) in the past include:
Slippers (suede mules from Clarks) - a big hit, dressing gown, pyjamas (she likes slinky satin ones), foot spa, perfume, Baileys, Body Shop white musk goodies, M&S or Boots giftcard, DVDs, CDs (Rod Stewart or Status Quo!).

alpaca scarf? heat tech vest/long johns? I usually end up with hamper stuff- exotic jams & chutneys.....

I'm ashamed to say that every year I buy up stocks of Royal Jelly toiletries from Boots in the January sales for elderly relatives. I hope they don't notice the packaging is always last year's In my defence, my gran and great aunts do love the stuff! But I should probably vary it a bit every so often....

We get GG (Great Gran) a hello mag subscription. She loves looking at the royals in the pictures! On the other side of the family we do vouchers, books, writing equipment, sweets etc

I remembered one of my grandma saying ages ago that she had always wanted to go to Bruge. When my other dear Grandma died in May I said to DH I want to take my Grandma to Bruge this Christmas, so we are going in a couple of weeks. Quality time with my only surviving Grandparent, I can't wait . Not that it helps you op. I think most people have all the things they need so how about trying to give memories instead, photobook is s lovely idea.
