What to buy 4 yr old DSS?

Hi all,

Struggling to think of things to buy DSS this year. He's 4 (almost 5) and so far we've bought him several jigsaws, books, pyjamas that he's seen & likes and a madasgcar DVD. We're also going to get him some Thomas the tank engine trains (he's Thomas mad atm!) but struggling to think what else to get him. Oh and he's asked for a fleece blanket so we're looking out for a Thomas one. Anyone have any ideas what else we can get him? Haven't really got him a main present either. We've probably spent only around £30 so far. Looking to spend around £100 or less in total if possible.

4-5 in my house was the year they outgrew Thomas, I think it ties in with starting school so perhaps don't go too crazy for Thomas or get some non Thomas trains too?

Good point, thanks. He's asked for a specific train so perhaps we'll get that one but look for a different fleece blanket. He likes despicable me and I've seen one recently so could get him that one instead.

Crumbs just remembered we've bought him a hoodie and long sleeved t-shirt with Thomas on for his birthday soon. Hope he doesn't outgrow Thomas too quickly!!

Lego Juniors

My DS will be 4.4 at Christmas. He will be getting;

Lego- just got into it and LOVES it.
Some hotwheel track.
A couple of new board games.

Possibly LeapTV- still researching this.

lego is always a winner.

Remote controlled car?

imaginext stuff-the castle and some characters? They have some really good deals around at the moment.

I have a 5yr old boy who is still quite a young 5 but even he grew out of Thomas as soon as he started reception. into all the superheroes now (despite never having actually watched Spider-Man etc!).

charles what board games have you got? Would love to get DSS some but don't know what he'd be able to play really.

Been thinking about getting some Lego as my parents bought him some figures before and he loved them, bet he'd love playing with more so he can build things. It's so expensive though for what it is!

Remote controlled car is a fab idea :)

The 'Orchard Games' ones are generally great.

We have Tummy Ache, Shopping List and Incey Wincey Spider that DS has been able to play since he was 3- but he still returns to them. There are lots for pre-schoolers that you could use to get him used to board games if he hasn't had them before.

We also have Dinosaur Race, Rhyme Robber, Rockets and Comets (snakes and ladders) and Monster Catcher. All popular.

DS plays UNO too, although without much strategy!!

Re Lego: the 'Creator' kits are good as you get a set you can make several different things out of.

Agree with pigsinblankets about Thomas. We really need to redecorate ds's room as he had a Thomas theme but has outgrown it at (well before) 5.5. Last year we got DS a box full of dressing up outfits which has been his most played with thing from last Christmas. He also loves his bike, scooter, Lego, Octonauts toys and IPad ( not sure what your views are on technology but there are lots of cheaper tablets out there).

Ooh yes sorry, the 'board games' ( not actual board games but you lie what I mean) that he likes are; Pop Up Pirate, Twister, Operation and Elefun.

I second the Hot Wheels suggestion, just the simple loop and a selection of cars - it's one toy that my 3 and 5 year old play with together and actually I don't mind playing too

My ds has just turned 5 but last we got him playmobil the fire station and engine. Still plays daily with it and ds2 likes pulling the figures apart and the car! This year he got the swimming pool and camp site. Although he sees it as a swimming pool with toilets and a corner shop!

Ds loved imaginext at that age

DS will be 4 in November, he is getting a toy story remote control car (£40 in Disney store - £22 in Home Bargains), some walkie talkies as he was totally obsessed with them when our friend's little one bought them camping this summer and some Lego or playmobil, will see what I can get the best deal on as he loves both.
