Is 6 too old for a doll pram?

Having asked for Sylvanian Families for Christmas (which luckily I haven't got yet), DD has asked instead for a Dolls Pram.

She does have a doll, and plays with her on and off. She likes her soft toys more so I can see her using those with it too, but it seems a bit babyish, and something that might not be used for too long.

I don't think six is too old at all, but if you're worried that it won't get much use then why not go for a basic stroller, they're quite cheap and could always be handed down to other children or given to a charity shop when she outgrows it.

No way on Earth is 6 too old for a dolls' pram! God, what a depressing thought.

I LOVED my dolls and pram at that age. Can't recommend any particular pram to you though.

Wow I am just as depressed as Scrabbled here.

Don't buy one of those cheap ones though, they don't last 5 minutes. She will get years of play out of it still.

I saw my dd pushing hers about it the garden not that long ago and she is 12, granted it was full of rocks and stones which she loves for some reason

My in-laws bought my daughter this pram for Christmas last year. It has an adjustable handle so even an adult can push it comfortably. And it's fairly solid.

My dd is 10 and still occasionally plays with her doll pram, in fact she had a friend round to play this week and they both played with dolls and the prams. I too think it is depressing if six is too old to play with dolls.

I don't think she is too old, I just want to get value for money and something she will play with for a long time - the children only get one big present from us so I want it to be worth it.

Too old? Not at all. God, it'd be terrible if a 6 year old couldn't play with a pram.

DD is nearly 7, and plays with both her pram and stroller loads. Dolls and teddies are brought for walks that usually require a stop for a picnic and story-time.

My daughter is 6 and I have bought her a pram for christmas! No way is she too old for it! She is tall for her age, and was still playing with her ELC toddler pram, so I decided to go for a bigger girls pram for Xmas! I know she will love it!

I would think 6 is on the cusp of outgrowing prams. But I also think not much older is when they outgrow toys altogether (maybe 7 or 8?) they don't seem to be children for very long.

DD (9) and her little friends still play with dolls and prams, along with Sylvanians, iPads, scooters, bikes, lego, lots of toys.

Growing out of toys at 7 or 8, really?

Well just from what I've seen with friends with older children.
Apart from perhaps lego and craft stuff.

Can I just ask what the 7 and 8 year olds who have "outgrown toys" do all day? They surely can't fill an entire day with lego and craft stuff? Well, not every day?!

I suppose they do go to school, loved but there is also a lot of time when they are not at school. My nearly-6-year-old DD1 has spent this afternoon setting up a huge amalgamation of playmobil, brio trains and hotwheels.

She did have to be reminded that we have loads of toys when she complained "I have nothing to do!"

She does also play with dolls occasionally, OP, and my mum is actually refurbishing my old dolls' pram at her house for my DDs.

I think 6 is a perfect age for a nice dolls pram, my DD plays with her pram , stroller and dolls cot more now than she ever has. ( she is 7 and a half) not every day but maybe once a week and likes changing her dolls clothes, putting them to bed etc much more now than when she was younger and she's not particularly a 'dolly' girl.
I think that people who think 6 is on the cusp or too old must have children with a lack of imagination, particularly if they are playing on electronic toys and watching tv 24/7. If they are being bought electronic toys and gadgets at 6 what an earth are you going to be buying them at 12??

I'm maybe not the best person to ask I suppose since ds has never really played with toys, electronic or otherwise. He just isn't very interested. I can't see in a year or so's time he will be interested at all.

Of course not. In any case where else would dolls be kept except in a dolls pram.

My DD gave her dolls away to the charity shop when she was 8... And then acquired a new one from MIL when she was 9 :o She's not a girly-girl and never has played with dolls alot (Play mobile and dressing up costumes have always ruled here, as well as bikes and wave board and in-liners and football and table tennis...) but the doll still gets occasional play, usually along with her brothers and/ or friends in some but role play scenario or theatre production.

Loved sort of has a point - my eldest is 9 and plays with fewer toys and in a different way to when she was littler - the Play mobile figures still get played with, but the bigger Play mobile items have been handed down, and she has far fewer toys in her room - the one doll, several special soft toys, but otherwise in her room she has a huge cage for her pet mice, a lot of books, a CD player, and her desk - not many toys in her room (though as she has younger brothers plenty in the house which they all play with together). At 9 DD still plays, most definitely, but toys are less integral - she and her same age friends play imaginary role play games, circuses, schools, horses, all sorts of games which they don't actually use toys to play.

I worried about this last year when dd1, who was 6.9, asked for a new doll and doll's highchair. they've been played with so much, and in fact all her friends who visit always coo and fuss over Baby Annabel. At nearly eight she's been eyeing up her little sister's new doll's cradle all day, and will no doubt be having a crafty turn when DD2 goes to bed.

My eight year old son still plays with his pram occasionally, but he pretends it's part of a train. He also has a toy kitchen which he still loves playing with and gives me death stares if I suggest giving it away. He also likes Lego and train sets.

Definitely not too old, its all role play and kids will always want to 'pretend' play up to about 12-ish. I would've thought a doll and pram would be fairly typical of a 6 yr old girl?

I wasn't much of a girly girl and didn't want dolls and prams ever. But my sister was as girly as a girl could be! Lots of dolls, pink things, big frilly dresses and dreams of being a princess...And I remember my dad telling her off at 12 for still playing with dolls, shouting at her to grow up.

And my stepson who's 14, likes to call himself an 'emo', dyes his hair various funky colours, has a girlfriend, hangs out at the skate park with his mates and thinks he's uber cool STILL has a secret stash of action men and little tigger toys at our house that we often hear him in his room having imaginative play time with when he thinks nobody is around (seems to enjoy pretend fights with lots of talking like a hardnut in an American accent! )... We sit there thinking "he's too old for this, surely?!) but I guess some kids just like to grow up in their own time.

But 6 is certainly not too old. She'll love it...
