Are there any in particular you would recommend?

Oh I like Serendipity. But I am quite a saddo.

MrsCakesPrecognition · 25/10/2014 14:37

Bad Santa.

BedRoomCurtains · 25/10/2014 14:41

Scrooged
die hard
Miracle on 34th street

missmajestic · 25/10/2014 14:47

Another vote for A Christmas Story. Saw it when I was a kid and loved it
, so tracked it down on DVD a few yrs ago. Can't wait to be on maternity leave this Xmas, usually work in retail so looking forward to actually enjoying the festivities Grin

Mummyboo30 · 25/10/2014 15:11

I love many of the above but also Family man with Nicholas cage and Tèa Leone. It's utterly lovely and most definitely lesser known. Makes me cry every time!

I am also a big fan of Scrooged, bad Santa, love actually and pretty much every other Christmas movie I've seen! :)

ItsGotBellsOn · 25/10/2014 17:20

Not a film, but I love 'Box of Delights'. Loved it as a kid and got 9 yr old DS into it last year, so think we'll watch it again this year. Very magical and Christmassy.

ItsGotBellsOn · 25/10/2014 17:21

Also love the Family man! Only Nic Cage film I can stomach :-)

moggle · 25/10/2014 17:37

Oh I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers Bernard and the Genie!! It's such a good film and I also own the terrible DVD copy which I had to buy of Amazon US and it cost about $40... So many big (UK) names in it. I reckon the Beeb must've lost the original tapes or something.

LikeSilver · 25/10/2014 18:19

I have found my people!

I LOVE Christmas With The Kranks, it is the best Christmas film ever. DH laughs at me when I watch it several times in December.

I love all the crap films on Christmas 24 too. Mrs Miracle and Mrs Miracle 2 are particular favourites.

AgentProvocateur · 25/10/2014 18:22

Another vote for Christmas With The Kranks. Took the DC when it came out years ago, and now, at 19 20, we all still watch it.

dalek · 25/10/2014 18:57

Bernard and the Genie is on Youtube

ScrabbledLeggsAndToes · 25/10/2014 19:08

Wow, so many suggestions! Thank you Thanks

I have ordered Family Man, and A Christmas Story as a result of this thread. Just bought them really cheap, on the CeX website if anyone else is interested.

The Christmas films I wish they would release on to dvd in the UK are:-

Unlikely Angel - A Dolly Parton film I saw on tv years ago.
The Little Match Girl - The one with Keisha Knight Pulliam, as the match girl. I used to own this on Vhs.
A Christmas Carol - The one that had Ross Kemp as Scrooge. I think itv made it.
I think that if The Greatest Store in the World was released properly as a dvd, (It was released as a promotional dvd to be given away as a newspaper freebie), it would make a lot of people happy! I think a lot of people feel nostalgic about it.

OH I love Mrs Miracle...pure cheese but so cute and heartwarming :-)

Patilla · 25/10/2014 19:16

Bernard and the Genie! I've been trying to remember the name for years, much to DH's amusement. Can't find it on DVD for sale though which is a shame. Much better than a lot of the modern tosh which is on.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 25/10/2014 20:04

Family Man, The Christmas Box, Christmas with the Kranks.

LRB978 · 25/10/2014 20:39

I believe the problem with Bernard and the Genie being released is down to royalties, and given off the top of my head you have Macdonald's, kfc, pizza hut, coca cola and an ice cream brand, possibly Ben and Jerry's, plus songs and cameos, I can ser royalties being an issue.

As well as Bernard and the Genie, another relatively unknown Christmas film I love is Call Me Claus, a Whoopi Goldberg film.

Sudename · 25/10/2014 20:49

Another fan if A Muppet Christmas Carol
Also love
Prancer
Jack Frost
One Magic Christmas

moggle · 25/10/2014 21:03

Patilla - link on Amazon.com is here if you want to buy it from the US - it is only $15 at the mo so shouldn't get caught out with import tax. The shipping calculator estimates about $6.50 P&P to post to the UK...

AcrossthePond55 · 25/10/2014 21:20

Yy to 'The Christmas Card'. Filmed near where I live. Sweet old fashioned romance. Also 'White Christmas' with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera Ellen. My late Dad absolutely loved that movie (and Rosemary Clooney!) so watching every year it is like having a bit of him with me at Christmas.

ScrabbledLeggsAndToes · 25/10/2014 21:58

Moggle - I don't think that dvd will play in the UK as it says it is a region 1 dvd. I may be wrong though.

OP posts:
BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 26/10/2014 00:03

Scrambled - we have just bought a couple of region 1 DVD's of the latest seasons of a couple of programs that aren't being shown on UK television and they work well. The advert for one of the DVD box set did say that it would work on all players made since 2006. They have worked for us.

duckbilled · 26/10/2014 00:57

My favourite film is the family man, I love it!
I also love the Christmas shoes (usually on christmas24), Christmas with the Kranks, Jack Frost, the Christmas cottage and the family stone.

OverAndAbove · 26/10/2014 06:38

Oh I loved Bernard and the Genie. The bit at the end when Trevor McDonald is reading the news "And finally the weather - deep, deep snow" is just the BEST! I had it on video but it's impossible to get now

patienceisvirtuous · 26/10/2014 06:58

Black Christmas :o (not one for the DC's)

patienceisvirtuous · 26/10/2014 07:01

A nice, feel-good, family film is Foster - with Toni Collette and Ioan Gruffudd about a little boy who they foster. Lovely
