What do 1 year old's play with?

It's easy to buy for DD, she has a list as long as my arm Grin but I'm stuck for DS, and I want him to have presents to open too (with DDs help!).

He already has lots of toys from his big sister, all the obvious things like stacking cups, wooden blocks, shape sorter, rattles, books and jigsaws. What else do one year olds play with? I've forgotten what my DD was like at that age!

He also has a birthday 2 weeks after Christmas so will get more presents then, but then nothing for a whole year so maybe something that he can grow into would be a good idea?

I have a similar situation with dd who has a big brother so have all the basics. I have got her a wooden dolls house and a couple of pieces of furniture - I am thinking I can add to it at future birthdays and christmases. Also got the tomy hide and squeak eggs which are always mentioned on here, a new shape jigsaw puzzle board thing, fisher price telephone, books, rubber ducks, finger puppets. Will also wrap any clothes/pj's I buy her between now and then! How about a scuttlebug if you don't already have one?

Do you have a bouncer thing - Dd got one (a deer) for her first bday & I was really dubious but she has used it lots still does at 2.6. Have same dilemma for DS but he will only be 5 months at Christmas so it'll be worse birthday/next year. Oh & a plastic tea set. But dd prob has one?

My dd will be 1 two days before Christmas. It's hard having birthday and Christmas so close together! I have bought her an old fashioned wooden rocking horse chair thing for Christmas, and getting her a 3-in-1 trike for her birthday for her to grow in to through the year. Also a huge set of Mega Bloks, and some clothes. Also got some little stocking fillers like bath toys, flashing spikey rubber ball things, wooden cars etc. I'm also going to buy her a few story books. It's probably worth buying a few things like any clothes he might need and grow in to next year, so he has presents to open but they are useful items.

Balloons - every 1 year old I've had to entertain in the past couple of years loves them. Noisy punch balloons with some dried rice thrown in are also good.

DS liked Little People Farm at that age in fact he still plays with it now at 2. So Little People, Happyland, shape sorter, postbox, stuff like that. Things that weren't so great - anything with a track, as he would pull the pieces apart. Too young for Duplo and Playmobil as well really.

DS2 will be 1 in December and he's getting Happyland stuff, a little people farm and toot toot drivers set to add to the one his big brother has, as he absolutely loves playing with bashing the cars off it

Oh and some mega bloks too
