So ds2 and stocking filler ideas. I usually get a few books; ds1 asked for spider man so easy but ds2.

He likes cats and trains. He needs colour and big pictures rather than lots of words. Any suggestions? Is meg and mog ok or not?!

Second Julia Donaldson! Her books with Nick Sharratt (Toddle Waddle, Goat goes to Playgroup, One Mole Digging a Hole etc) are adorable. But poss too young for a two year old? Not sure as I only have a 14month old! She loves them but I also think she'd still enjoy them in a year or so...

TheWoollybacksWife · 19/10/2014 21:18

My DS enjoyed Dear Santa and I'm sure he was about 2 when I put it in his stocking. Smile

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/10/2014 21:33

Stick Man is my favourite.of the Julia Donaldson books, and Santa is in it too! Might make a nice bedtime story for Christmas Eve.

Fifibluebell · 19/10/2014 21:41

Not sure if the offer is still on, but when I looked last week I noticed that The Book Peoples were selling a box set of 10 Julia Donaldson books for £10.9

MrsPear · 19/10/2014 22:10

I have put a hairy book plus and the train goes on the wish list. Getting there! Thanks

Julia Donaldson of course are wonderful. Tiddler, Snail and the Whale our faves.

Hug, by Jez Alborough, may seem young (only has 1 word) but my DD (3) thinks it is the best thing ever. She 'reads' it to us every night! With an older child I realise this is quite useful as when you start school you often get books without words and are encourage to tell the story to the pictures, so Hug is a good example of this.

Monkey and Me, and The Odd Egg both by Emily Gravett are also really fab.

JustASimpleSpongeCake · 19/10/2014 22:25

Pants, more pants, and socks. Three different books with a similar theme. Grin DD2, aged two, loves them.

She came home from nursery with a new fave though - the yoga ogre. It's brill. Smile

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 19/10/2014 23:02

dd adored her hairy mclary books, loved them.

bakingtins · 19/10/2014 23:47

Zachary Quack is the best Hairy McClary book by a long way.

how about Little Red Train? They have lovely illustrations and an audio CD. will be enjoyed for years to come and v good for talking about the pictures.

We have a set of books from the Book People - Terrific Trains, Amazing aeroplanes etc by Ant Parker. v annoying but both boys loved them.

dustybinlydia · 20/10/2014 09:32

There are some lovely books by John Butler - Whose Nose And Toes? and Can You Cuddle Like a Koala? They have beautiful pictures.

Also the Humphrey's Corner books, by Sally Hunter, are good. Again they have gorgeous illustrations.

Lastly, Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae - Bright pictures, great story, and all told in rhyme.

Tidypidy · 20/10/2014 09:37

Mine all love meg and mog. Ds1 particularly likes the Maisy books and tinga tinga tales. Anything by Shirley Hughes or Richard scarry are also big favourites here.

Petallic · 20/10/2014 14:19

Diggers are good at digging
Oi Frog (has a cat in it)
Mr Pusskins counting book
Never use a knife & fork
10 drowsy Dragons

I've found the Julia Donaldson books a bit wordy for my 2yr old - I have to read super quick to fit it all in before she's turning the page!

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 20/10/2014 18:54

2 yr old loves 'dig dig digging' (and the train version), the Thomas book about the engine with his name, Baby's Catalogue, and I'm planning on getting him 'Look inside - things that go' and Richard Scarry collection for Xmas.

Boomtownsurprise · 20/10/2014 18:59

The tiger that came to tea by Judith Kerr

The tickle monster - it's pop up like. Every time you find the monster you tickle the child. Great fun!

Wildpoppies · 22/10/2014 12:14

Mine love love loves the board book version of Shark in the Park

TheOnlyPink · 22/10/2014 12:37

My son is nearly 3 and still adores one mole digging a hole by Julia Donaldson. It has hardly any words but beautiful big pictures.
Another one of his absolute favourites that Santa brought last year is Fox's socks. It's a lift the flap, but very durable and an adorable simple story. He was just 2 last Christmas and is almost 3 now and knows it by heart!
One Ted fell out of bed is a great bedtime story too. All by Julia Donaldson!
