So ds2 and stocking filler ideas. I usually get a few books; ds1 asked for spider man so easy but ds2.

He likes cats and trains. He needs colour and big pictures rather than lots of words. Any suggestions? Is meg and mog ok or not?!

Yes to foxes socks. My 2 year old loves it. Also Maisy is a huge hit here.

Hairy mclary
The little red train
We also have "yummy" by lucy cousins which he loves. Nice stories, beautiful illustrations and just the right length for him. Perfect.
He's getting into the Thomas stories now, we have the set from tbp.
Eric carle - the very hungry caterpillar, polar bear polar bear etc.
he likes Richard scarry but a bit long currently - some better than others.
The gruffalo
We're going on a bear hunt.

Will add more if I I think of them. I love books :)

If he likes trains what about Choo Choo Clickety Clack by Margaret Mayo?

ShadowKat · 22/10/2014 23:19

The Little Red Train books by Benedict Blathwayt are good - the pictures are big, and very detailed, so lots to talk about just with the pictures alone.

The Mog the Forgetful Cat series are good, especially if you get the large paperback versions. There is Mog's Christmas which is good for this year, and my DS particularly enjoyed Mog and Bunny, in which Mog's toy bunny gets more and more grubby and tatty because she plays with it so much, and then gets stranded in the garden in the rain. Waterstones have Mog soft toys as well.

I have to agree with shark in the park. My son at that age would find it at nursery. It was the only book he would read for a while.

In the works at the minute they have hardback books with a puppet in the middle. My DD has 'playtime teddy' and a lamb one and she absolutely loves them. She is 3 now but we bought them last year. I think they are £3.99 each or 3 for £10.

Benguinsmummy · 23/10/2014 21:50

My little one likes The Dandylion, Lost and Found, Up and Down, and Wow said the owl, lovely stories :)

AnnieEdison · 23/10/2014 21:57

Mine have both loved Each Peach Pear Plum, Peekaboo, The Baby Catalogue, Calm Down Boris, Dear Zoo, Dinosaur Roar

My favourites (always make me tear up) are My Mum, and My Dad by Anthony Browne - ends with a lovely cuddle

BikeRunSki · 23/10/2014 22:04

I Wish I Were a Dog was very popular with DS and DD at 2.

lunar1 · 23/10/2014 22:40

The ravenous beast has always been a favourite with my boys.

MissRabbitsCV · 23/10/2014 22:42

I got beaten to it! Hairy Mclary all the way. DS2 - 2 yo loves them - he can recite them - some of it unintelligibly - and DS1 nearly 5 yo loves them too.

Shirley. Hughes hasn't been mentioned yet . My nearly two year old loves. Alfie

bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 24/10/2014 20:36

Dd loves wibbly pig books. I love you little monkey is also a nice one, especially when the terrible 2's hit! The biggest kiss and a hug one of similar name are great too

LikeSilver · 24/10/2014 20:51

Dd is 2.5, she loves:

The Yoga Ogre
The Tiger Who Came To Tea
Six Dinner Sid
Bet the Vet
Owl Babies
Pooh! Is That You Bernard?
Topsy and Tim
Peepo

And anything by Julia Donaldson, but particularly What The Ladybird Heard and Stick Man.

She also adores all of the Sue Hendra books, much to DH's enjoyment as he hates reading them Grin

Meg and mog is brilliant. Dogger by Shirley Hughes is my favourite children's book ever. Do you have the elephant and the bad baby?
