Advent calendar ideas for 9 month old

My Mother out law has given DS an advent calendar train. It's lovely and has little drawers for everyday. Obviously you're meant to fill it with sweets but DS will be 9months old by December and I hate to be all pfb but he's too young for sweets. Any good ideas of what I can put in it instead? I was thinking of putting the Christmas carol titles in it and then singing/playing them to DS? Something fun? Anyone have any good ideas?

TBH, I would probably just put it on display this year as he won't have a clue.

Or put sweets in it for yourself :)

He's 9 months and wouldn't give a toss if you had one or not, wether you sang carols or not...

Get one, but for yourself. A nice expensive chocolate one.

Next year, the carol ideas would be worth something but not at 9 months. All they care about is the next feed and something they can either chuck on the floor for you to pick up again or shove it in his mouth.

Definitely truffles for yourself Grin.

Use it for him next year.

I think the carols idea is lovely and sounds like something a baby might enjoy. I wouldn't let the fact he is too small to remember put me off doing something nice with my baby if I wanted to.

Unless you put in a rice cake for each day I think you might as well stock it with chocolates for yourself this year! DD will be the same age and I was planning to get her an advent calendar and eat the chocolates on her behalf. I need the calories for breastfeeding!

I like the idea of chocolates for me! Why did I not think if that?

MIL bought 7mo dd a train advent calendar with drawers for her first Christmas. She filled it mostly with treats for me and a couple of festive finger puppets as a token gesture.

Definitely chocs for you!

My little one was 11 months last year with milk protein allergy, (no chocolate!) so we had a similar thing where I got and wrapped up 24 books (a lot of them he already had) and put the titles into the drawer and he got to unwrap the book with that title (ignoring the label that told me what it was) and that became the bedtime story routine up until Christmas Eve....

TeWiSavesTheDay · 19/10/2014 22:18

Chocs for you is excellent!

I seem to recall individually wrapping 24 wooden blocks for pfb's first advent calendar GrinBlush

Mrsgrumble · 19/10/2014 22:22

Yep to chocs for yourself. I love the idea if a song title in each though too.

Finger puppets, you can get them cheap on amazon. Oh and chocolate for yourself :)
