Christmas cake feels like a brick!

Have bitten the bullet and made my first ever Christmas cake last week. It's the Delia classic one. I soaked the fruit in more brandy than Delia said, and left it for 2 days to try and get really soaked in. Have just taken the cake out (stored as per instructions) to feed it with more brandy, and it feels as hard as a brick.

Is this normal? Will it moisten up with more feeding every week?

Have made it very early to give myself time to make another in case I need to!

Any help gratefully received.

Is it dry or just solid and heavy?

They usually do feel heavy and solid, so I would persevere and only be concerned if it seemed dry. From what I remember Delia's cake is very dense. I would keep feeding. Mine usually starts to actually leak booze I feed it so much.

Thanks mamapain, I feel slightly reassured. It doesn't seem dry, just really dense. Will keep feeding and reassess in a few weeks. Am tempted to make another one anyway just to compare!

thanks again

If you do make another one, I use what is basically this recipe and alter it our tastes.

You can always gift one if you find yourself with two good cakes.
