Nice Christmas Stockings

Does anyone know where might sell nice Christmas stockings? I'm thinking of maybe getting ones with the kids names on. They are 1 and 3.
Obviously I know its more for me than them, I desperately wanted a proper Christmas stocking as a kid. Mum's tights just didn't cut it.

I got gorgeous ones from Not on the High Street a few years ago, it's probably a good place to start, especially if you want personalised ones.

Are you crafty? They aren't too hard to make. I've done all of ours and it means you get the fabric you want etc.

I got some gorgeous ones from etsy . Terrapin knits I think it's called although there was a customs charge of £15 to pay Hmm. They are lovely though and something the Dcs can keep forever

Thanks all. MrsMinton, not really. Things never come out much like the idea in my head :*

Hi batgirl - I'm not a sewer but we made a christmas stocking & it was the easiest thing. Got lots of red felt from a roll at john Lewis, cut 2 pieces & sewed. The intention was to decorate t each year with something different - the year or something....

dollybean · 10/10/2014 08:59

John lewis have some lovely stockings as do matalan for a cheaper option Smile I got some linea ones from house of fraser a couple of years ago for around £15 each. I personalised them myself by embroidering the dcs names onto a piece of fabric and sewing it onto the stocking- my sewing skills are rubbish but this was easy and much less daunting then attempting to make your own Grin

I'm planning on getting these stockings from Matalan and adding these personalised key rings to them from Ebay. Think that they will look more expensive than they are! :)

gorgeous stockings here. from states though have to pay shipping but may work out cheaper than some inferior stockings on sale here...

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 10/10/2014 10:19

btw why does everyone do felt stockings not velvet ...

LikeSilver · 10/10/2014 10:47

Mamas and Papas do lovely ones as AFAIK you can have them personalised.

superbagpuss · 10/10/2014 10:49

I have a friend who made the stockings for my DC, she has a shop on FB - or I can IM your her details if you are intrested? I think ours were 15 each but will last forever

batgirl1984 · 10/10/2014 17:37

superbagpuss yes please do pm me. Thank you for all the ideas. Not sure now. Might do the make one our of felt thing but get a relative with a sewing machine to oversee me! Or might buy one ready done coz I run out of time!

thehouse good question!
I'm very likely to try to fit too much stuff into them every year. Would velvet be more durable?

No, no, knitted is the best for the mysterious lump effect (plus it stretches better).

batgirl1984 · 10/10/2014 19:27

If I started now they could have knitted for their 18th. I can't do the casting off and on bit.
My friend tried to teach me to knit for my firstborn and gave up in frustration:(

Sorry mot quite sure what happened there?

nic013 · 10/10/2014 23:42

I like making crochet or knitted ones in red and white stripes. If you use a thick wool it takes no time at all and there are some great tutorials on youtube. Or just use long candy strip socks and cut the names in felt and stick them on

I ordered a gorgeous personalised one off eBay for dd this morning, it was £17 with postage but I think it should do a few years for her
