North Pole Breakfast

I am doing Elf on a Shelf this year with my 3yo and we are really looking forward to it after an absolutely rotten year.

I would like to do a North Pole breakfast when the elf arrives. Has anyone got any ideas on food to serve. I would like a mix of savoury and sweet really

We don't do the elf on the shelf but I like the idea of doing a North Pole breakfast on Christmas Eve just in case they aren't hyper enough on the day!

I'll watch with interest and see if I can come up with any ideas.

I wonder if you could make snowman pancakes fairly easily with an American pancake mix and two blobs dropped close to each other. You could always push raisins in for eyes and buttons once cooked?

Patilla · 06/10/2014 16:30

Hot chocolate stirred with candy canes? Though I don't know if it adds anything, other than sugar!

You could cut toast into seasonal shapes with a cookie cutter, we do it with a dinosaur cutter for DS as a treat now and then just make sure the bread isn't too thick

Last year I bought Christmas tree waffles (from asda) and 'decorated' them with 'baubles' (red and green m&ms). Made little FCs out of strawberries cut in half with whipped cream. Hot chocolate with little marshmallows and edible glitter. We did ours on Dec 1st, not much savoury there to be honest but it's only one day. Also made the table all Christmassy. There are loads of ideas on Pinterest.

Amazing ideas already!!!! Thank you!

Last year asda did Xmas tree shaped crumpets

You could aldi get a slice of bread, cut out a shape in the middle ie Xmas tree or snowman with a novelty cutter. Fry on side of the bread the flip over, crack an egg into the hole and fry until done.
White yoghurt with snowflake sprinkles, and coconut
Bacon sarnies in little squares stacked up and tied together with parcel ribbon

Guitargirl · 06/10/2014 16:38

Yes, sorry, they were crumpets. Not waffles. I think they were doing star-shaped waffles but they had sold out. My two weren't keen on the texture so I think am going to do toast with a cutter this year.

BrieAndChilli · 06/10/2014 16:38

A fruit Xmas tree - cover a big ice cream cone in something sticky like choc fudge icing the stick bits of cut out fruit on it. Lots of kiwi and green apple with other coulurs mixed on for baubles etc and a star at the too cut out of melon

Guitargirl · 06/10/2014 16:57

Last year I also did cut up pieces of banana and strawberry and arranged the slices to look like candy canes. I think I might do a frozen-themed breakfast this year. Quite excited now .

Asda have snow men and trees in store already.

spottymoo · 08/10/2014 17:00

Crumpets that is

BrieAndChilli · 08/10/2014 17:03

H will have to pick some up for the freezer, I had to go into asdas about 10 times last year before I found them in stock! it's a 30 mile round trip to our nearest asda so wasn't a n easy thing to do! We have an asda opening in the next town over so should be easier this year!

TheSpottedZebra · 08/10/2014 19:14

I put xmassy cookie cutters in the pan and then pour pancake batter into them to cook -voilà, xmassy pancakes.

lizzywig · 08/10/2014 20:44

Nigella has a great recipe for 'Christmas morning muffins' which are delicious, although probably more for you than for Dd.

Have you seen the edible stars in the supermarket? You can get them in the baking aisle and would be great for sprinkling on things for extra pretty effect. I wonder if you can get snowflakes?!

gruffalosarse · 08/10/2014 20:49

What's this North pole breakfast you speak of?

Hobbes8 · 08/10/2014 20:52

You need the four major food groups: candy, candy cane, candy corn and syrup.

Guitargirl · 08/10/2014 21:04

Yes, we have edible snowflakes! I bought them from TKMaxx last year, the best before date is 2017!

North Pole breakfast - Christmassy breakfast, elves optional.

Last year I got a reindeer bread from Morrisons and I made my own tree crumpets- just a small christmas tree cookie cutter on the old warburtons crumpets! Also did snowman pancakes (two pancakes, blueberry eyes, chocolate buttons for buttons and a mouth and candy cane arms), also had eggnog to drink and some stollen.

This year I'm going a bit more mental extravagant Grin. Snowman pancakes again but I'm going to do pretzel arms, a meat free bacon scarf and I'm sneaking Heston's popping candy in there to give an extra surprise Grin. Getting toffee waffles to cut into tree shapes instead of crumpets, banana and strawberry candy canes, DH and I are having Heston's earl grey teacakes and a chai latte as well, DC will have pink milk and chocolate flutes in the lakeland milk bottles. Also a jar of reindeer candy corn on the table, snowman s'mores and stollen bites that act as snowballs. They'll also have a pack of the arctic bear yo yo snacks wrapped up with their other North Pole breakfast gifts so will have them and a cocoa mint nakd bar too Grin. I know it won't all get eaten but still.

Guitargirl · 09/10/2014 06:54

Poolomoomon - I think you should change your nickname to Mother Christmas! Smile

worm77daisy · 09/10/2014 06:56

When our elf arrives we make elf donuts, these are Cheerios either dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with hundreds and thousands, or dipped in a melted butter, sugar and cinnamon glaze, and a white chocolate one too. The look really sweet.

I also lay the table the night before with christmas cups and crockery.

Look on Pinterest for more ideas just search for North Pole breakfast.

Guitargirl · 09/10/2014 07:02

I like the elf doughnut idea, might try that this year.
