I made the wine one last year for dh, but with miniture bottles for the midweek and large bottles for the weekends Grin

I have just bought the East of India rusty bucket advent calendar from Amazon :)
This means that I can fill it with whatever I fancy as it will be for me, DH and DS (10) I was thinking of miniature Heros, tickets to a panto, fresh mince pies when I bake etc.
The buckets are smaller than I imagined but I will slip little notes in when there's not enough space :)

This thread is ace, but completely evil. I want my own advent calendar now! Don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but there is a Yankee Candles advent calendar. My mum's birthday is Christmas Eve, I've just had a thought that I could make/buy her a lovely advent calendar including something extra special on the 24th. But how to do it without breaking the bank?? Any brilliant ideas anyone??

mabelbabel · 02/10/2014 11:18

PS - she would like the tea one probably (which I could manage, but maybe make my own??) and she would love the gin one (but I can't stretch that far...)

FoxSticks · 02/10/2014 11:36

How about a gin and tea one? You could make your own calendar and and stick in miniatures of various drinks, posh chocolates, different tea bags etc? I bet you could buy little buckets from somewhere and make your own version of the calendar linked to above.

nikki1978 · 02/10/2014 11:46

This is the Selfridges one. I would buy it if I was rich but they are about £100.

MarchEliza · 02/10/2014 12:02

Last year I got the You Beauty one which was about £50 and contained a full size beauty product (quite high end) each day. I am still using most of these products so I think it was totally worth it.

Some of these look amazing (if you're a beauty addict) www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/beauty-hair/news/a29772/beauty-advent-calendars-2014/

mabelbabel · 02/10/2014 12:14

Yes - gin, tea and chocolate - a winning combination. I might actually do that... (But - oh - if only I had the money to get her that beautiful Liberty box in the Cosmo link...)

By the way that link is causing some very "adult" pop-ups on my browser.... I'm sure it's unintentional but beware!

iliketea · 02/10/2014 17:24

We have a wooden one that we bought at a Christmas market a few years ago. We fill the drawers with our favourite chocolate at the end of November.

FoxSticks · 02/10/2014 17:39

Really? It's just about making advent calendars out of bog rolls Blush

I'll ask mnhq to delete.

JerseySpud · 02/10/2014 17:50

Im going to get DH lego star wars and i want the yankee candle one

mabelbabel · 02/10/2014 18:36

Foxsticks - I know! But when I tried to click through all the nudey women popped up - at work! And the on my phone from the same link... I'll have to Google loo roll advent calendars instead. Thanks for deleting.

FoxSticks · 02/10/2014 18:51

Blimey - don't know how that happened - it looked like a really wholesome site too! Apologies for my dodgy link.

trixymalixy · 02/10/2014 19:04

I REALLY want the Liberty one. Anyone got a Liberty code?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 03/10/2014 06:19

Jo Malone? A mere £250?!!!

mabelbabel · 20/10/2014 07:32

Alert! 2013 gin advent calendar is a lightening deal on Amazon at 8.59pm today!

BadRoly · 20/10/2014 07:36

How long does a lightning deal last please Mabel?

mabelbabel · 20/10/2014 07:47

I think they have a set number so sometimes they end pretty quickly, bit if they don't sell out I think they normally run for a couple of hours - sorry I'm not sure exactly.

MissLurkalot · 20/10/2014 08:02

Thanks for the heads up Mabel.. Would you mind linking as I can't find it despite being on lightening deals now. Thanks x

mabelbabel · 20/10/2014 09:36

The easiest way to see it is to scroll LEFT from the first page of deals using the little arrow. There are two "2013 drinks by the dram ginvent calendar" listings now showing at 9pm. Can you see them? The currently listed prices are about £110 for one and £150 for the other! Would need quite a big discount to make me buy, but worth keeping an eye on, I guess...

OvertiredandConfused · 20/10/2014 09:39

If I had the money, I'd so buy this

Gin for breakfast in the countdown to Christmas Smile

SteveBrucesNose · 21/10/2014 04:10

The lottery are doing advent scratchcards for a fiver, with 250k max prize. Gonna get us one of those each I think

I8toys · 21/10/2014 10:49

Have a look on pinterest. There are some awsome ideas including a punch box one which I am doing for my kids. Made my mum a photo calender last year with a plastic door hanging photo holder - put in 24 pictures of the kids numbered 1-24 and she turned a picture around each day.
