Hotwheels - are there any good tracks/sets out there?

I know they are generally rubbish but my 4yr old got some for his birthday and is now insistent that is his favourite toy. I thought I might put some tracks on his wishlist for christmas so are there any that are actually worth it?

My five year old wants the new loop track

Would be interested if anyone has this and is it any good?

It is not cheap at about £50

DS has a few tracks, but no loop ones. I can't find them on the net, but I think we got them from B&M or similar place for £10 each. They are a bit wider, as in two cars can go next to each other, and you can clip them together to build a mega track. We've had them for two years and they are still doing well. Yes, they fall apart every now and then, but DS is 5 now and can clip it back together when needed.
Be warned - they take up lots of space obviously. It was the reason we built a playroom for him Hmm
I suggest to just look around, we always find them in the home bargain style stores for a tenner and it would at least start him off and you can see if he still likes it in a few months time.

We have this one www.toysrus.co.uk/Toys-R-Us/Toys/Cars-and-Trains/Cars-and-Playsets/Hot-Wheels-Super-6In1-Race-Set(0113943)

Which seems to go down well with DS and his friends.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 30/09/2014 13:25

My sons have a couple and they are shit. Always breaking and falling apart. If you wanted to get one at all I would get the one that screws onto the side of a table(like a D clamp), and the track makes a loop. they like that the best as they make jumps with tissue boxes etc.

GREYCROW · 30/09/2014 13:32

We have loads of them unfortunately... My son adores them, he finds them fine to use and we've had no problems with breakages.

I got the superloop Chase track for him for Xmas this year reduced in Argos. He also wants the four lane raceway that comes with 18 cars from Smyths and the starter set which is very good value from Argos.

I do find that they are space consuming but he's been obsessed with hot wheels since he was very very small (he has autism) and being seven now I like that he actually creatively plays with something rather than just lining up cars.

GREYCROW · 30/09/2014 13:38

Sorry it was Amazon that had the loop reduced. £33. It's £40 at the moment.

marne2 · 30/09/2014 19:13

We have bought a few sets over the years and have found them to be badly made and very flimsy, the cars are good though and have ended up being played with alongside the road rug.

ImNotReallyHere · 30/09/2014 22:18

we have a couple but not great. what does get used is Blu track (can't do links but check amazon). It's fab. A flexible blue track that kids can make their own tracks (use books etc for ramps) and can attach to window. They use their imagination to change tracks and it doesn't get boring so still used 3 years on. We only have a fairly basic one too

Muchtoomuchtodo · 30/09/2014 22:23

Our ds's have enjoyed the criss, cross, crash track and the 4 lane elimination race.

The clip on one with the loop the loop is good too.

JuniperTisane · 30/09/2014 22:31

Oh excellent! Thank you all for the suggestions.

P.s Taping down or weighting down parts of the tracks helps and poundland had five bits of track for you guessed it... very recently, £5.99 on Amazon.

Look up Racegrooves tracktime on Youtube, he reviews them all... I think my son is the future him Grin

GREYCROW · 01/10/2014 02:24

The Blu track looks AMAZING!! ThanksImNot Is it very compatible with the Hotwheels cars?

GREYCROW · 01/10/2014 02:28

Or Hotwheels track for that matter? We already have intricate tracks scaling my landing... this would be fab.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 01/10/2014 05:55

Thanks grey I'll keep a look out on Amazon I think that's the one ds2 is after

JuniperTisane · 01/10/2014 07:42

I sat down DS1 in front of youtube yesterday while he had his hair cut and for the first time there were no tears! Some of those videos are amazing (in a kind of nerdy way) and my mum now wants a track at her house so she can play with it in between grandson visits!

GREY - the blu track is compatible with hot wheels cars. The one I have is wider than a hot wheels track so you wouldn't be able to attach it to a track I don't think. But it has two lanes so ideal for racing cars (often down the stairs) and a suction thingy to stick on the window.

aftereight · 01/10/2014 09:38

The speedometer is a hit in my house. It was cheap on Amazon.

GREYCROW · 01/10/2014 15:27

Thank you ImNot Thanks

This is the one I said was pretty good value, once you price the stunts separately

Juniper The Racegrooves channel on Youtube is an adult avid collecter... DS wants to go and live with him and his children in America!

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 01/10/2014 18:43

That one does look good actually I might get that instead of the new loop one
