So we didnt get the harrods grotto despite logging on at 9:03 when we received our email and spending 20 on hold listening to bloody hark the herald angel! Angry

We're in London but can drive so any other grottos that are just as magical?

Should say baby is 1 and friends son is 7.

Thanks

Thanks for the recommendations.

Done the Bluebell railway which was good. Leeds castle is close, will look into that one. Thanks.

Leeds Castle was brilliant when we went . We did it several years in a row.

Thought I'd post an more positive review of painshill - although I'd agree that you don't get that long with the big man. We've been 3 x and I love the overall experience. You follow a trail through the garden - over a bridge/through the woods/past the Lake and 'ruined' church ... the wishing tent is tat, but the crystal grotto itself has just been totally renovated & I think it's magical!

BUT I always book either a late slot (ie one of the last slots) - so that you are going through the trail in the dark/the queues aren't too bad) or one year we were the first slot early on a Sunday - it was frosty & foggy, and it felt like we were the only people in the whole place, with swans floating out of the mist - magic!

We've always had fab elves who really camp it up too, but i think that one is the luck of the draw. Not the best Santa ime (when we did Chessington, the Santa was better) but something magical in the whole experience, if you're lucky. It would be shit in the rain, though!
