I can't think of anything to buy, nothing at all so far! She doesn't like Hello Kitty, Moshi monsters (sp), One Direction, Loom Bands, etc., etc..

Likes - reading, we probably buy 15 books a month, Lego, she has more than enough, Shleich Fantasy - has enough, new watch recently, art - has enough supplies, sewing - has a sewing box/kit I put together for her last birthday, music (v musical)- has a piano and recorder am reluctant to introduce another instrument/anything else musical. V outdoorsy still uses her swing/climbing frame with tent on it. Has a bike, scooter, pony. We have a family iPad which she is allowed to use and she has our old iPod with a docking station in her room for books on tape.

Any ideas, I am lost, she never asks for anything, has tons of £ in her pocket money tin and never spends it - what on earth can I buy for Xmas?

Errrrm well I'd say there's no such thing as "more than enough" when it comes to lego :o sorry that's probably not what you wanted in a reply is it - seriously though has she tried lego technic? Might be a good next step if she's had heaps of the regular stuff?

Or an actual sewing machine?

Small dressmakers dummy type thing?

Music stand for recorder practice if she doesn't already have one?

Fun piano music books?

I love Djeco craft things, all very different stitching boards, art studios and so on.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 09/09/2014 19:02

Maybe some meccano just brought my niece some pink meccano from Amazon for Xmas one is a boy to be 7 and the other is 9.

Honestly we have four what seem like massive boxes of Lego.

She has the hand turn Singer sewing machine I learnt on 40 years ago - love it for her, goes at her pace and she is keen. My parents bought her the JL kids machine a few years ago which was absolutely rubbish, we gave it to charity and I dusted off my old machine and had it serviced. I sew and can see her using my machine next which is permanently out on a table in a little room in the house.

She has one of those dummies that came with her first doll (got to 7 before she wanted a doll and it was one of those Gotz Hannah with the dressmakers dummy/few pieces of fabric kits).

We all play various instruments so have a music stand and she has plenty of music, in fact her teacher came up with some 'magic' related music books this term which are really great.

I always buy a few Djeco kits - still have a couple left from last year.

Honestly I am completely stuck - the only thing she has asked for is a Harp and I am not going there for a couple of years yet.

My husband said she will need a bigger bike next summer ... but her birthday is in the summer and I would prefer to leave it until then!

Last Xmas I bough the Gotz Hannah, Djeco, some new skis, more Schleich and Lego. This year I have a bit of Djeco on my list and that is all! I really don't want to buy Lego, have a lego ideas book though so could buy another one of those in a different variety.

But still a book and a bit of Djeco is it right now.

Any other ideas?

We are buying our dd a tablet for her 8th birthday this month. I wasn't thrilled with the idea but couldn't think of anything that she would like more. God knows what we are going to do for Xmas.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 09/09/2014 19:06

Kindle
Playmobil
More Lego (theres no such thing as not enough Lego)
Years pass to somewhere good local
Magazine subscription
Bushcraft day / lessons

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 09/09/2014 19:07

Bananagrams

Loveleopardprint · 09/09/2014 19:07

If she likes music would she like a karaoke machine? My girls have had one since they were 9/6 yrs old and still use it now at 14/11. You can then get all different CDs to sing to including, pop, Disney, musicals etc.
they have them in toysrus.

Loveleopardprint · 09/09/2014 19:08

Also Harimika or a 3D puzzle?

Janek · 09/09/2014 19:14

Roller boots? Osprey do some that fit from size 13-3, they're adjustable.

turdfairynomore · 09/09/2014 19:14

Nano blocks?? My 20 yr old DD loves this stuff. It's teeny weeny Lego!! Makes very detailed models -she has the cutest wee rabbit built!! Her kits are pocket money prices but they also come in larger sets.

3bunnies · 09/09/2014 19:14

Mine really liked having personalised things such as pencils, notebooks, towels etc.

NerfHerder · 09/09/2014 19:15

This book is awesome- hours of pleasure looking at it (beware- some countries do not feature in big detail, eg Portugal):
Maps by Mizielinkska & Mizielinski - my 8yo currently has her nose buried in it.

If she likes drawing/design, what about the Imaginaires Design Studio?

It's not a big present, but the Galt book of paper planes has gone down really well with my outdoorsy neighbour of about that age.

Otherwise, a den building kit? Tickets to something? Horse riding lessons?

NerfHerder · 09/09/2014 19:17

Oh- and a good harmonica? (C key first) or maybe the toy accordian from JL?

'Fun' music for the piano, for outside lessons, to encourage her? For example from films or games she likes.

TSSDNCOP · 09/09/2014 19:25

What about a fabulous trip e.g. tickets to an amazing musical/costume production like a ballet preceded by a cream tea.

SugarplumKate · 09/09/2014 19:36

Tickets to something - a musical or ballet maybe? Teamed with a meal out, or overnight.

lavendersun · 09/09/2014 19:57

Thanks for all the suggestions I really appreciate it - will look at those books Nerf they look great and the paper plane books. Harmonica might be good, have no idea what Harimika is but will look it up. Also like the idea of Meccano if I can get the old fashioned stuff.

Still a bit stuck for a big pressie, and I still have to suggest something for GPs to buy.

She has a pony, we always go to the Royal Opera House for ballet at Christmas with posh tea somewhere, have the JL toy accordion somewhere, just about to do grade 1 piano and have a fabulous teacher, in a junior orchestra, does forest school. Live rurally not sure roller boots would get used enough as the country lanes round here are 60mph and we are not in a village, she wouldn't like a karaoke machine AND ... my husband would kill me if I bought a small animal, seriously, our large animals take so much time, he would kill me!

Nerf - have you got the Imaginaires Design Studio? If so do you like it?

We have the story cubes and love those - use them a lot on holiday along with Bananagrams and some maths dice game I can't remember the name of.

HalleLouja · 09/09/2014 20:01

Toys for the garden? Not sure what you could get an 8 year old but bought a second hand climbing frame for my 6 year old that went down well.

Some patterns / fabric for sewing?

Angelto5 · 09/09/2014 20:13

Tickets to Legoland Windsor?
Trampoline?

lavendersun · 09/09/2014 20:15

Thanks Halle - have had climbing frame and swing affair in garden for four years - still much used (but to be honest she prefers climbing trees). We bought a summerhouse as a play house this year for her birthday.

I have tons of fabric and we have a few dolls clothes patterns (her current interest).

Still reading through - have local memberships to a couple of things which I alternate with two others every other year so we don't get fed up of the same place.

She definitely prefers 'proper books' and wouldn't want an e-reader.

So hard isn't it - perhaps I will have to get over my wish to buy something big.

OP posts:
Terrierterror · 09/09/2014 20:15

Would she like to try climbing? You could find a centre near you.
