Sylvanian families... Will I regret starting?

Thinking of getting a dolls house for DDs who will be 5 and 2. Want them both to enjoy it and for it to have a long shelf life. Think younger dd too young for the fiddly bits of SF but it's the set that looks like it will have the longest appeal.

But part of me doesn't really want to get hooked into years of investment. Anyone else found a good compromise for that kind of age gap that keeps both amused and doesn't cost a fortune in the long run? Thanks

DD2 played with her sylvanians for years.

If they do like them, they're great, because you can suggest them as gifts for family and friends.

She was given a small dolls house type thing, but also used DD1's dolls house, which was not a sylvanians brand one.

I bought them for dd2 a few years ago ( because I wanted them, only rich kids had them when I was young ), she wasn't really interested in the figures or the tiny bits but the dolls house has been used for many different things, I sold most of it to a friend and kept the house.

Both my daughters loved theirs. We had loads of the stuff. I remember the shop being really popular with them both.

We have a dolls house from asda which is big and roomy for younger ones- dd is 2 and loves it and can access easily. They have some sulvanian families but are not interested on them really- although they for nicely in the house and with the furniture. Sulvanians are expensive and not amazing quality for the price. I think you'd be best seeing if they are interested in the characters and getting a generic house and then if they are interested buying more. My dd's like real people, I loved sulvanian families as a child but I was animal crazy!

to be honest, i would say that 5 is too young as well. my girl are 9 and 8 and have only really been responsible enough to play with theirs for about 6 months now, without leaving bits all over to floor to get stood on and broken.

Have a look on ebay, there's usually houses going on there.

I bought the starter house for my daughter's third birthday and she really loves it and plays with it. It's just a simple house though with a few bits of furniture. We added a daddy rabbit and baby rabbit. I'm thinking of getting her the camper van or nursery school for Christmas.

I got DD (age 3) a doll house online from The Doll House Emporium. I spent literally months scouring the web for a doll house that ticked both boxes of being a) sturdy enough for a toddler while b) not so baby-ish looking that they wouldn't want to play with it at 6+.

I love Sylvanians but unfortunately I suspect so would 10 month old DD2 so they will have to wait a few more years!

Keep an eye on amazon lightning deals. Had loads of SF last week at excellent prices. Had some of the houses & other buildings, families etc at fairly big discounts. I got the 7 sestet car for just over £12.
