What's your Christmas Eve dinner?

We have a tradition of fish and chips take away on Christmas Eve in my family. Dh, ds and I are doing Christmas at home, just us this year, so we will probably carry on the tradition, unless someone updates an awesome meal idea

Me and the kids go to panto 5-7pm on Christmas eve while dh does his wrapping so we get something in town.
Kids choice is usually burger king or a Belgian waffel with strawberries and ice cream

We do snacky buffet food, the type you have in the freezer and stick in the oven. And wine.

We try to have a day out on christmas eve, so need to have something quick and easy.

I'd love a takeaway, but none deliver where we are.

We cut the Xmas cake and have it with some nice cheeses and wine whilst watching Carols from Kings, it's festive and also very chilled out before the madness begins!!

Chinese takeaway which we collect on our way home from the pub. We all decamp from the crib service at church to the pub next door and spend a couple of hours chatting.

Ill be off on Maternity Leave this Christmas Eve which is a shock as I usually work til 11pm on CE. Will have a three year old and a two mo th old.

Think we will go the whole hog and do christmas pjs, movie and hot choc with dd,then dh and I will have a chinese and champagne

Sausage rolls for dcs after crib service. Then linguine with crab and chilli and a bottle of fizzfor dh and me when they are in bed ...gets later every year :(

Another one for Chinese takeaway!

We usually grab something out and about. However we have done hot buffet style food, and also a Christmas dinner before.
It's far to early to know what I'm doing this year. I've only just done dc birthdays and I still have to finish school uniform shopping. Wish we could abolish uniforms..he has plenty of jeans and t-shirts.

Crisps followed by jack daniels, sambucca and jaeger bombs! I always go to the pub xmas eve .

However, as a child we use to put the picnic blanket on the floor and have a picnic. So we'd have crisps, sausage rolls, cheese& crackers, cheese & pineapple, twiglets(anything typically 70/80s). I'm looking forward to passing this tradition on when I have kids.

Roast ham, macaroni cheese (more luxurious versionwith different cheeses, breadcrumbs on top, etc), green beans.

Chinese take away here too.

Snacky buffet things, and crack open the Christmas booze.

Last year we had ribeye steak from our butchers with chunky chips, mushrooms, onions and peppercorn sauce with champagne once the kids were in bed and I think it might be a new tradition.

It was fab!

Although Cyanarasamba's menu sounds amaaazzing...I could eat that right now..

ham, egg and chips here... nice ham to carve chunks off over Christmas, cold with chips done in the tefal dry fryer thing and some fried eggs - lashings of heinz ketchup..

Last year was a Chinese when we were staying with DH's family and I think the year before at my parents we had buffet style food but we don't really have a tradition as this will be first year we've spent in our own house.

Would love to start one though so I'm keen to see what everyone else has!

Bit early, but we've lit the fire this afternoon and have baked Cornish pasties which the dc are eating in front of it now, watching Home Alone

Christmas eve every year I aim to be an organised goddess and invite friends round for drinks and homemade canapes.
What actually happens is that dp does 'the big shop', I tear around the house looking for all the 'hidden' presents that I bought and stuffed away, try and secretly wrap stuff, go and do last minute drop offs and clean the house from to bottom. People do drop in (not for sophisticated drinks, just to say hello) but I look like harassed witch, so visitors leave. I then continue my quest for perfection while dp starts the cooking and mince pies with the dc.
Dinner for the dc is something easy. Pasta probably.
Dinner for dp and I is usually alcohol.

Well you did ask

A traditional 12 dish Polish Christmas meal - no meat but fish vegetables, soup and desserts. Poles celebrate the main event on the 24th so in effect I get 2 Christmas days.

We do hot baguettes (last year was roast pork and apple) early evening and then curl up on the sofa with nibbles and chocolates watching Christmas movies. As DD gets older we'll do a Christmas Eve hamper too, we might even do it this year although at just two I'm not sure she'll get it! That will include PJs, hot chocolate, popcorn, book and film.

When we were children Mum always cooked a rib of beef and sausages from the butchers. She always baked her own bread and we used to have hot roast beef and mustard or sausage sandwiches, followed by mince pies and Christmas cake, along with half of the village who seemed to pop in at some point.

I loosely follow the tradition and roast a rib of beef and bake sausages (although with bread from Waitrose!). I am the only one who likes mince pies and Christmas cake so I usually make Nigella's maple syrup cheesecake or a chocolate torte (both make ahead things).

I love Christmas eve dinner - v relaxed, Christmas film, Christmas pjs, log fire.

Followed by opening of presents, lots of fizz and a nice chocolate cake with brandy cream around 10pm.

We celebrate our main day on Christmas Eve.
In the morning we decorate the tree, then we bake some traditional biscuits, have a sandwich for lunch. Later on while turkey is in oven we go to neighbours for drinks and then home for our family time.

Christmas Day we have leftover turkey in freshly baked bread and chill, while children play with presents.

Ooh it got me a little bit excited too! But nowhere near enough to start doing my Christmas shopping, that's just bloody nuts!

We have a takeaway on Christmas Eve. Its usually pizza or burger/kebab.
