Stocking filler ideas for a newborn

I'm thinking practical things such as a teether, first toothbrush, dummies - that sort of thing.

What would you put in it?

I have a loft full of ds's old toys which will be reused but ds may recognise them and I don't want him thinking FC has forgotten about his new sibling so I thought a stocking from FC would be a good idea.

I bought stuff up to aged 1 and it was stuff I probably would have bought anyway. Like

A personalised tree ornament, hat, booties, bib, cuddly toy, special Christmas baby group.

These are brilliant. My DTs got them for Christmas at 3 months and still play with them now at 11 months. Just bought a set for my nephew and he loves them too.

I would not give a newborn a stocking. So nothing in it.

Ds is 4 and at prime Christmas excitement age amothersplace so the stocking is for his benefit rather than the new baby's obviously.

My DD was only 5.5 months on her first Christmas but we still did a stocking. We bought her a jumperoo (I think it was the bright starts one) and I used my club card vouchers to buy rattle type things to hang off it. I actually gave her the jumperoo a week before because she wanted to be held all of the time so 5 mins in the jumperoo gave me 5 minutes to eat! On the day we just gave her the stocking things and she just played with 5 he paper. I will remember it forever :)

Ds2 was 2 weeks old for his first Christmas, Ds1 was 4.5, so of course Santa had to come to the baby too. Ds1 even put a piece in his letter about the new baby that wasn't born yet, with no prompting from me!

I put vests, New dummies, bibs, sippy cup, teether, a bath book, lamaze rattles that you put on their wrists and ankles, bubble bath, a CD of classical baby music, some weaning spoons.

Cost very little and was all stuff I was buying anyway, but Ds1 was thrilled helping the baby open his gifts and was great for getting them to bond. Sitting holding my tiny new born and my older son excitedly opening the baby's gifts is one of my happiest memories!

We put in things that would be used when they're a big older e.g. stacking cups, shaker, little books. Bath toys are good, I found the ones from dd1 had got a bit mouldy so we needed some new ones.

I totally understand the need to do a stocking for a baby so the older sibling doesn't think they've been left out.

I put together a stocking for DD last year only because I wanted DS to not think she had been left out! She got things I would have had to get anyway so a toothbrush, a bib with sleeves, some pink plastic cutlery and plates, some stacking cups, one of those personalised books (DS got one too - they were free when I got some baby wipes!). That type of thing.

Tooth brush. Weaning spoons cup plate. 1small rattle. A book. Some fat crayons.

Having two winter babies I thought about what they need for the whole year as bday and Xmas are so close together.

How about a cloth book or a comforter like this one?

Dentinox teething gel and metanium bum cream might come in useful too

We did personalised ceramic baubles for both our DC (DD has a robin and DS a reindeer).

The idea is to give them a decoration every year (they'll be able to choose them themselves in a year or two) and when they leave home they can take them all.

We did special decoration too, also new pyjamas, clothes, woolly hat, sophie giraffe teether, bibs , buggy book , new bottles and a toy. Older siblings will definitely question why the baby has been "forgotten" by father christmas otherwise

DS was 8 months at his first Christmas but I put in Christmas socks, bibs, bauble, musical instruments eg maracas etc or any bits I could find that were from 12 months plus so he could 'grow' into them

A soft book suitable for newborns? Otherwise I would save your money. A newborn wont really care. Put the money into an account for buying a PS5 in years to come.

Nice little woolly animal hat, little soft toy, Christmas themed fabric book (we had one about Jesus birth, and I remember seeing secular ones available too). Wrist rattles - dd had some lovely ones, including a gorgeous Winnie the Pooh one. A Christmas themed "That's not my..." Usborne book? Think they do That's not my Santa, and there is definitely penguin, polar bear etc.

Stacking cups if you don't already have some. Christmassy bib. The Hungry Caterpillar ( there were two or three classic children's stories that I felt each of my children should have their own copy of. This is one of them.)

I am doing the same baby due end Nov n little boy is 4 in couple weeks so far have 3 rattle type toys n plan to get some socks, pk of weaning spoons, bottle nighttime moisturiser as will us anyway. Our stockings are,always little things that cost no more than£2-2.50 an item even mine n husbands.

The baby has a few presents for under tree stuff already got like lamaze toys that I have brought on offer.
