Is it a case of the earlier the better? Is there anything else super organised types do now for Christmas?

I do mine nearer the time (not a rich fruit cake though) Maderia type with sultanas, light coloured nuts and Amarretto.

I make two small cakes -one to marzipan and ice.
One to eat plain with crumbly cheese (Wensleydale or Cheshire)

October half term :) Christmas pudding gets made then too

I usually plan to make cakes & puddings in mid-late October.

What happens in reality is that the cake gets made in December (it's a light fruit cake so doesn't need much maturing) & I end up buying a pudding Blush.

I soak the fruit in August, leave it to steep for 8 weeks, then make the cake and I feed it for however many weeks there are left until Christmas another 8 weeks.
