I have been to a party before when my DC was given the same gift I had given the birthday child as a part of the goody bag. I was mortified. It was very kind of the mum, but I felt very embarrassed. When I give things to others, unless it is close family, I give based on the full value of the item rather than sale price, as that is what the receiver will base it on. If they are close friends it is different.
