Question for you all!

Did anyone make an advent calendar last year? ?ith samples in it for a teen girl? I know we spoke about it...

I'm going to do it for dd1 this year as at 15 the chocolate ones aren't really cy exciting. I've been keeping samples and I'm fine for that, but I was wondering what you had used for the actual calendar?

How does this subscribe and save @Amazon work?

I would love two of those Hello Kitty gift sets but do I have to buy 4 to get the discount?

Hi, yes it comes as a pack of four, do you know anyone who'd buy the spare two from you?

To get the extra 15% discount you'd need to buy four other things via subscribe and save within the month, I think most stuff that's sub and save are grocery and baby items bar nappies. Again you can just get the first delivery then cancel the sub and save so you don't get anymore deliveries the subsequent months. The sub and save feature is really easy to use, Amazon explain it better than me though!

daddykyller · 06/06/2014 22:59

Subscribe and save is pretty good because you get money off, and don't have to keep getting it every month either :)

This next part is a quote for the wide wide world of web:
"
Subscribe & Save allows you to commit to purchasing an item on a regular basis and receive a discount for doing so. The discount is generally between 10% and 20%, saving you quite a bit over the course of a year. You can choose to subscribe to a product every month, every six months, or several options in between. This works for many products on the site such as batteries, shampoo, cleaners, toilet paper, and other stuff you'll need on a regular basis. You can even use it to automate your office lunches. It's delivered to your home when you need it and you don't pay for shipping. You save money and it's really, really convenient

But what if you don't want to actually subscribe to a product? It doesn't really matter. If you buy something via Subscribe & Save and you don't want to continue your subscription, you can just cancel it. Amazon will even remind you a new shipment is coming so you cancel it before they bill you. You make absolutely no commitment to the program by choosing a product, and you can skip any shipments if you don't need it. Amazon just gives you the discount on any Subscribe & Save shipment, whether or not you actually use that subscription. So if you want 10-15% off, just buy the first subscription. You can just cancel it afterwards if you don't want more.
"
Amazon have a page with all the stuff you can use it on too:
Amazon Subscribe and Save
AND currently you can use the code to get 30% off your first subscribe and save that you do. Just use SAVE30PC (tells you about that on the page linked above)

I think a much better thing you can do is the 3 month free trial of Amazon Family.

With this you get all the benefits of Amazon Prime Instant Video

Unlimited, FREE One-Day Delivery on millions of items

Exclusive offers and discounts for members beyond the normal discounts

The big thing for us is getting 20% off nappies with it. They are already usually cheaper than the supermarkets on amazon.

Also if you do the trick of signing up with a new email you should get you extra free trials too after the 3 months has ended :)

If you want to check that out here is the amazon page about it: Amazon Family 3 month free trial

Just don't forget to turn off renewals before they want to start charging for it. It is £49 for a whole year, so if you want to keep it up you don't have to do anything. If you don't want to keep it - just remember to cancel :)

To cancel go to the following amazon page (Manage Your Prime membership), where you can also find the date your trial is due to end listed on the left-hand side and the option to cancel should be there as well. Make sure you cancel a few days before this date. Just click on "Do not continue". If you have been using it for beyond the free trial and now want to cancel click "Cancel membership". : Manage Your Prime Membership

Thank you daddykyller ! Smile

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 06/06/2014 23:23

Craftynclothy the knock off Hello Kitty - I'd seriously wear those earrings myself and I'm [censored] old sadly not young enough Blush

ChristmasYoni · 06/06/2014 23:37

Crafty crocodiles pocket money section is fab for stocking fillers.

MooseyMoo · 07/06/2014 07:10

Tickseed, Hawkins Bazaar are great for stocking fillers.

I wish I lived nearer to a Tiger Store

lostlalaloopsy · 07/06/2014 08:09

Thanks for those fab links Itstill! My little nephew's birthday is Christmas Day so I like to get him a few extras.

Tinkerisdead · 07/06/2014 08:27

mini microscope with good reviews here

chanie44 · 07/06/2014 09:02

Rhonda - I'm making a beauty advent calandar for my mum using sample sized products like perfume, nail varnish etc.

Last year, ikea sold some advent calandar gift bags, which were 24 for £8. My other idea is to make some origami style bags using something like wrapping paper. I haven't looked for a tutorial yet, but that's my plan!!

RhondaJean · 07/06/2014 09:09

Ready made gift bags sound good! Origami ones perhaps not so - I have the hand equivalent of two left feet.

Thanks!

HaveYouHeardOfGoogle · 07/06/2014 09:10

Ooh that microscope is perfect as a little extra for my friend. Thanks TheDoctorsWife! I'm useless at finding these great bargains on Amazon.

craftynclothy · 07/06/2014 10:01

Rhonda - I made advent calendars with 4 strands of ribbon across. I then pegged envelopes to each strand of ribbon. I used alphabet stamps to put dates on the envelopes. Another option is the paper bags for gift shops that you can get on ebay - they usually have xmas designs available.

NorbertDentressangle · 07/06/2014 10:14

I've just bought 2 of those mini-microscopes for stocking fillers (fits my criteria.....tiny enough to hide in the suitcase, lightweight, something to amuse them) - hopefully keep the DC amused looking at strange foreign bugs, plants etc!

andadietcoke · 07/06/2014 11:21

The Disney Store have Doc McStuffins dolls for £5 instead of £12, and Sofia the First for £8.40 instead of £12 plus 30% or more off some other DmS and StF toys. Free delivery over £50 and a DmS art set for £6.99 instead of £12 when you spend £10.

MayhemMostDays · 07/06/2014 11:37

Just ordered the microscope for 7yo dd1s stocking.

Perfect, thank you!

If she likes it, then I can buy her a proper one but at least if it doesn't interest her I haven't wasted £££'s.

shutitweirdo · 07/06/2014 11:50

Bought 6 colour in play houses now. paper bags for my home made advent calendar and a few little bath toys for the advent gifts. Going to have a browse for samples on ebay next. Oh and Lidl have play tents in next week at £11.99, and kids space hoppers for £7 i think.

MayhemMostDays · 07/06/2014 12:05

Do you think Frozen will still be popular at Christmas?

I'm thinking of getting two big Olaf toys to sit on their stockings but not sure if they will be over it by then.

Are all the Olaf's on Ebay cheap fakes?

Thanks for taking the time to explain subscribe and save Thanks and thanks for the Claire tips re. Loom bracelets Thanks

MayhemMostDays · 07/06/2014 12:07

I also bought a colour in playhouse, am thinking of setting it up Christmas morning with brand new pens set inside - unless anyone can think of a better idea?

dawndonnaagain · 07/06/2014 12:13

Just to add a note. My stuff from ebay's Liberty shop has arrived. For those who were a bit concerned, it is very obviously a legitimate site, it was fast delivery, good packaging and the jewellery comes beautifully boxed, in a pouch inside the Liberty box. I'm really happy with it.

Mipe · 07/06/2014 13:39

My cheap butterfly earrings have arrived and they are lovely! The matching necklace is nice too :).

Coffeetofunction tap anywhere on the last post you've read and a "bookmark" icon will pop up on the bottom right of that post, tap that and each time you open the thread you will be brought to that exact place. Then just repeat as necessary. HTH
