Is it just me who loves the leftovers more than the actual Xmas dinner?

I love love love my leftover sandwiches - warm baguette with turkey, stuffing and the bacon sausage things with mayo on one side and cranberry jelly on the other. I look forward to it every year and always buy extra bacon sausages specifically for them! But they're all gone now Xmas Sad

How about you - what have you done with your leftovers?

Doesn't sound very British to me.
Americans love leftovers, have you checked your parentage lately?

MimsyBorogroves · 28/12/2013 14:23

I've been making turkey and stuffing sandwiches with "lashings" of cranberry sauce. I much prefer them to Christmas dinner - though I would also like Yorkshire puddings as a side dish.

RomulanBattleBagel · 28/12/2013 14:23

Aw, why isn't it British?

I am one quarter American if that helps :o

Ooh mimsy that reminds me, we accidentally ended up with small foil baking trays this year (blame DH - he thought he was ordering roasting tins Xmas Hmm) so we did the yorkies in those instead of muffin trays and they turned out really nicely. It made me think of a pub where I had shredded roast pork rolled into a rectangular Yorkshire pudding, with apple sauce to dip. AMAZING. Quite tempted to try that myself sometime.

I don't know if raft link worked - this song is by an old friend of mine who tried to get it in to the Xmas tunes a couple of years ago.. The old Christmas sandwich :-)

Eh? Have you never heard of bubble and squeak. I purposely cook too many potatoes and sprouts so we can have b&s on Boxing Day.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 28/12/2013 14:55

I hate them, try to only do enough so we don't have leftovers and give any we do have to my parents to take home.

CloserLook · 28/12/2013 15:06

I love the leftovers. We had beef instead of turkey this year so I missed out on the turkey sandwiches but we had a lovely chunky-bubble-and-squeak-type-thing with the leftover potatoes, parsnips, stuffing and sprouts just with some fresh gravy and yorkshire puddings on Boxing Day. Enjoyed it far more than the actual Christmas dinner!

Davros · 28/12/2013 18:04

Love leftovers, especially Xmas ones. Very British IMO. Even when we dint do Xmas dinner at home, we buy a turkey so we can have leftovers! This year we didn't order in time and I really miss it. I'm sure we could still buy one in the supermarkets but have not been shopping TG

ChristmasJumperWearer · 28/12/2013 18:10

YANBU, I love leftovers!

We didn't host this year so have "had" to cook a ham and buy in some other bits in order to create some faux-leftovers. Along with some pickles and cheese. Nummy.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 28/12/2013 18:14

Yep, love them. Just enjoy grazing - cold roast potatoes, stuffing, cold Christmas pudding for breakfast

Today we had turkey and ham pie, yesterday bubble and squeak.

FionasFatFairy · 28/12/2013 18:14

I love those sausages so much that I bought extra. The Kurds and I are having them tonight!

We have roast beef for Christmas, bug I insist on a turkey so I get my turkey sandwiches.

FionasFatFairy · 28/12/2013 18:15

Not the Kurds (not that I would discriminate against them, I just don't know any) plus the kids would be hungry if I fed the Kurds instead of the kids Grin

cupcake78 · 28/12/2013 18:16

I love left over veg and sausage!

WireCatGlitteryBaubles · 28/12/2013 18:16

Very in you to hunk of the Kurds.

WireCatGlitteryBaubles · 28/12/2013 18:17

See, my autocorrect has made a fool of me when I'm taking the piss! Blush

juneybean · 28/12/2013 19:08

Absolutely love leftovers, think I was more bothered about them than eating the first time!

Currently tucking into a turkey curry as we speak type

2kidsintow · 28/12/2013 20:17

Yes. I love the leftovers better. Boxing day was brill because we had a complete Christmas dinner of leftovers, served with a little bit of freshly made gravy for lunch, then turkey, stuffing, cranberry sandwiches for tea. And no cooking involved. :)

SidandAndyssextoy · 28/12/2013 20:22

We had 39 pigs in blankets on Christmas Day between six of us. Plenty of leftovers.

Skogkatter · 28/12/2013 20:53

YANBU. Christmas dinner is very fussy, but leftover food is just as tasty but is relatively effortless and laid back, with the same pleasure.
