what do you do when they get older?
if this is what you normally do with family presents?
who do you buy for?

I buy gifts for children. I exchange gifts with adults.

Some people think that presents are only for children.

Others think that adults and children get presents.

Others do different things with different friends/family.

The only thing that is important is to agree with the people in question.

And you've got plenty of time now before next Christmas to decide what you would prefer to do and discuss it.

We (immediate family and friends with kids) now only but fit the kids, not each other. This was agreed by all as the cost would be astronomical to buy for everyone.

Tbh I prefer this, raising a glass with the adults and spending time with them means more to me than a gift.

Christmas is for everyone. Santa brings gifts for everyone at our house. As far as extended family goes, everyone does what they feel most comfortable with-no pressure as far as who you "should" buy for. Mom buys for her grandchildren up to age 13 and for her children up to age 25. Dh's parents buy for everyone. We buy for our nieces and nephews but my siblings don't. DH's siblings buy small gifts for everyone. Our friends and ourselves all realize that things can get a bit tight at Christmas so don't buy for each other but then spend a bit more on birthdays.
