Christmas at home for the first time since being an adult

I was with my ex from being 19 years old and every Christmas we went to his parents

We split when I was 32 so for the last 3 years I've taken the dc to my parents

So every year they've opened their presents then I've dragged them an hour in one direction or another to see grandparents, eat food that they don't like and have to be on their best behaviour. I've always driven so never been able to have a drink and I can't just eat then flop -I've had to be sociable

Well this year I've put my foot down

Just the 3 of us will be having Christmas at home, I've got a turkey joint and a ham joint as dd1 can't stand turkey, if they want to eat 10 pigs in blankets each they can

I've never cooked a Christmas diner but I'm the most chilled I've ever been

Should I be feeling guilty about not taking the dcs to their grandparents?

No, not at all, sounds perfect. You could see GPs on Boxing Day? That's what we used to do as kids

We are doing Xmas at home this year - me, OH, ds3 and dd1. I really thought I was organised and have now realised there is so much stuff I haven't got like crackers!!!

Mil came to the rescue and picked up a small turkey for us today, as i went out yesterday and couldn't get the one I wanted. I can't get out to the shops today and OH is working.

I plan on preping the veg tonight so we aren't spending all of Xmas in the kitchen.

We are visiting both families on Boxing Day though.
