Panic, the dd's presents are at my mums and I don't think I will get there ( flooding).

I am getting worried, it's been chucking it down with rain no for 24 hours, the roads are flooded and my dd's presents ( from Santa ) are at my mums. What if I can't get there tomorrow to get them?

Could you go really late to get them if needs be?Or really early?

Guitargirl · 23/12/2013 21:35

Hmmm, as last-minute panics go, I'd say this is pretty up there with the best (or worst) of them.

So, what is the forecast for where you live for the next 24 hours? Is the rain due to stop so the water has a chance to subside enough to make the roads passable?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 23/12/2013 21:39

You need OhYouBadBadKitten and her weather updates!

Good luck OP. That really sucks. How old are your girls? In the worst case scenario could you make up some fun reason why Santa couldn't make it and is coming a day late / had to deliver to Grandma's instead? Try to turn it into some kind of big adventure?

My mum is working in the afternoon ( if she can get there ) so need to go in the morning, rains meant to stop by 6am but the roads will still be waterlogged. We live on a village on a hill ( think peppa pigs house on a hill ) and we are surrounded by river, river burst its banks last week and has not gone down, after today's rain it is quite bad, am seeing stories on fb of people not being able to go anywhere ( not being able to get to work or to family ), there's one road that might not be as bad so I will try that first, if not I may be able to find someone with a 4x4 or a boat Grin.

Dd's are 7 and 9, both believe and are very excited about Santa coming tomorrow night.

All the roads have been closed, can not get to my mums (and mum has tried to get to me but failed) Sad not looking good.

Can you text local friends and see if anyone can spare a gift to avoid no Santa disaster?

Marne · 24/12/2013 12:44

I am hoping I can get someone with a tractor to pick the presents up from my mum at the other end of the flood and drive them through to me, there seems to be a few tractors going back and forth. Mums going to try again in a hour of or so, water was a foot deep a hour ago so hopefully it will go down, we do have a couple gifts here and I have a pair of slippers I bought dd1 which are in my car but hopefully we will sort something out as dd2's main present is with the gifts at my mums, dd2 has ASD and will be very upset as its the one thing she has asked for Sad.

I think the tractor might be a good way to go.
Friday looks really rather wet too and there are warnings out for it, so its worth planning carefully for then.

BigArea · 24/12/2013 12:50

Oh good luck - I'm rooting for you here, and if tractor succeeds it will be a fab story for when they're older!

NorthernLebkuchen · 24/12/2013 12:56

oh crumbs! hoping all works out for you OP. Can you borrow some waders and get through the worst of it with a rucksack? obviously DON'T do this if there is any force to the water or any chance you could lose the road.

HDEE · 24/12/2013 12:59

Marne are you in Dorset? We too are stranded. All roads in and out are blocked.

NorthernLebkuchen · 24/12/2013 13:02

If you have any trouble getting a tractor then ring your local BBC radio station and ask them to help you. They love that sort of thing. as long as it's safe somebody will come to your rescue.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 24/12/2013 13:05

I agree with Northern. If you can't get the tractor call the local BBC and they will get something done!

Fingers crossed for you

Indith · 24/12/2013 13:07

Santa couldn't risk getting the sleigh stuck so he left the gifts with their grandma, he hopes that is ok.

HyvaPaiva · 24/12/2013 13:12

Yes, I came on to say what Indith said. Write a letter from Santa.

Marne · 24/12/2013 13:19

They have just got through using their motor home Grin, we now have presents (hidden in my car) so can now relax, Christmas is back on. Just hope everyone else stays safe (weather moving North so take cover), more bad weather on the way but at least not the dd's will be kept busy if we are stuck Grin. Thank you all for your good vibes xxx
