It's a mains gas Aga. I've been out all day and returned to a lukewarm Aga. I've tried to relight it but it goes out.

SH I T.

I was hoping to roast my ham tonight. And then there's the small matter of the 12 people coming to me for Christmas lunch.

Has the flue blown shut in the high winds (dreading this happening to us ATM

Does anyone have any advice, please?

The piezo switch is sparking fine but the gas won't stay alight when the knob is released. I've tried several times but it won't stay alight.

Do you have anything else that runs off the mains gas? Boiler? Is that still working?

DoubleEspressoPlease · 23/12/2013 18:54

We had this happen with our mains gas aga. The thermocouple had blown & needed replacing. Bad timing but maybe your service company could fit you in as an "emergency" tomorrow?

LibraryBook · 23/12/2013 18:56

Yes, will call Aga first thing tomorrow morning and see if we can get an engineer out. It does sound like the thermocouple.

the winds might have caused problems with the flue

TallGiraffe · 23/12/2013 20:28

Ours regularly goes out in high winds but it's an oil fire one. Just wanted to say good luck.

FourAndDone · 23/12/2013 20:31

Oh what an arse! Have you tried kicking it? Sometimes works in my house!Blush

Utterly · 23/12/2013 20:32

Kicking it?! I think that would mean broken toe, not mended aga!

FourAndDone · 23/12/2013 20:35

Still, satisfying Grin

True Grin

ExitPursuedByAChristmasGrinch · 23/12/2013 20:37

Where are you? Do you not have a friendly Aga man?

I couldn't think of anything worse.

TallGiraffe · 23/12/2013 22:24

I shouldn't have commented, our temperature is plummeting like a stone with the winds. Argh.
