AFAIK, it's missing from newer versions. I have it in DVD and it's not there. I LOVE that film and my kids hate it, which is a massive disappointment to me.

eggybrokenoff · 23/12/2013 17:59

why why is it missing why? I love the movie too. my kids are a bit young yet

I love it. We watch the DVD at random times.

HeyMicky · 23/12/2013 18:00

It's a rights issue. Was only released on VHS (thanks god as it's a horrible song)

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 23/12/2013 18:00

Eggy I did exactly the same. It's not right when the song is missing - I loved sobbing to that every year.

The love has gone, the love has gone

EvilTwins · 23/12/2013 18:01

She's a fab singer as well. Seems weird that she doesn't get a song any more Hmm

Kelly1814 · 23/12/2013 18:02

Best film ever!

superbagpuss · 23/12/2013 18:02

I have the vhs version and the off telly version

DC too young to really appreciate it ATM

tshirtsuntan · 23/12/2013 18:03

"When love is gone" Grin I love that film so much, I now have 3 DVD copies without that scene and it wasn't in the version they showed at the cinema last week either Blush

ImpatientOne · 23/12/2013 18:04

It's not on my DVD copy but it is on my soundtrack CD Xmas Grin

I'm not sure it's on any DVD or Blu-Ray versions that are for sale now and it wasn't on when they had it on TV recently so in answer to the thread title yes there are some MCC geeks about

TheHOHOHOnlyPink · 23/12/2013 18:08

I hate that they took it out, it cuts to gonzo and Rizzo crying but it makes no sense cos you don't hear the heartbreak!
it wasn't a great song, but it told an important part of the story imo!

ShirtySocks · 23/12/2013 18:09

Light the lamp not the rat, light the lamp not the rat.

Nope, never seen it Xmas Grin

mintberry · 23/12/2013 18:15

Just like how Scrooge never appreciated Belle until she left him, I never liked "When Love is Gone" when I had the VHS, but now I have the DVD I miss it! Xmas Sad

Rosvita · 23/12/2013 18:18

Yep I LOVE muppet Xmas carol.one of my best gifts I received one Xmas when I was little-I have worn the bhs out though and was going to buy the DVD but luckily realised prior to buying it that 'the love is gone' scene is missing. If anyone finds the full version on DVD let us know!

Tigglette · 23/12/2013 18:26

I love MCC, it's our traditional Christmas Eve movie - I can practically quote it word for word... I do miss the song though, our VHS went the way of the dodo years ago and the DVD is poorer without it.

somedizzywhore1804 · 23/12/2013 18:31

Love that song but apparently it was originally cut for the us market who found it depressing.

eggybrokenoff · 23/12/2013 18:51

it just doesnt make sense without that song. (lives in hope of it being reinstated in a full non edited version in future).

Xfirefly · 23/12/2013 18:52

watched it this morning Blush

DD 15 weeks was glued to it and smiling so I'm happy Smile

normaleggy · 24/12/2013 07:18

I adore this film, my friends and I have a Muppets Christmas Carol evening every year, we did this even before we had kids. I agree that it's not a great song but is important to the story.

colleysxmasmillofcheer · 24/12/2013 07:22

I love all things muppet - its true wherever you find love it feels like Christmas!

Statler and waldorf are my all time favourites - inspired casting as marley and marley

christmasmum · 24/12/2013 07:25

This upset me so much I researched it online! Apparently this is the reason...the love is gone

AttackOfTheKillerMonsterSnowGo · 24/12/2013 07:29

Love MCC and we always watch it on Christmas Eve! :) never heard the song, so am off to u-tube it!

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 24/12/2013 08:19

It's our Christmas eve film too, Xmas Grin
I'm known for crying every time at the scene where Kermit/Bob Cratchit opens the door to Scrooge.
My family laugh at me every time, heartless meanies.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 24/12/2013 08:37

Excellent film. Rubbish song. Always used to fast forward past it. Hope everyone has noticed that Beaker gives Scrooge the finger Grin
