DD has her old Y6 class coming round tomorrow - so we have eleven 11/12 year olds (now y7) over for lunch and a few hours.

They will spend some of the time doing their own thing but DD has requested a few games maybe

So far we have planned:

  • cereal box game
  • rotten eggs - using smarties
  • charades
  • a Christmas quiz
  • pictionary

Anything else we could through into the mix to give them some more options.

snowman game - loo roll, hat, gloves and some black circles with double sided tape - put them in teams and they have to race to make a friend into a snowman. I played this with 4 7 year olds on wednesday and they loved it, recon it would still work for 11 year olds

after 8 game? you have to balance an after 8 on your forehead, and manouevre it down your face to your mouth by just wriggling eyebrows, tilting your face etc - no hands. If it drops off replace back on forehead.

Is good as a relay race, 2 teams, one person from each team start, then when successfully in mouth next person starts and so on.

quieter game - scattergories - have sheet with various categories down the side - for example boys name, piece of clothing, part of the body, british town etc. then 3 or 4 columns. 1 column per round - you get say 2 min to think of something to fit each category starting with the same letter - everyone uses the same letter, but it is a different letter each round. You only score a point for a unique answer.

snowman game is great! Though be prepared for it to turn into a mass loo roll fight!

how about passing balloon down a line of people without using hands?

or musical chairs ( still a favourite!) or musical statues - but there is someone allowed to interfere with the participants ..ie stick a silly hat on them try to make them laugh etc ( no touching or tickling allowed)

or spoon on a really long piece of string and has to go up the clothes of first person and down the clothes of the next - 2 teams first spoon to reach the end?

i was going to suggest drawing game, like pictionary but items suggested by my dad, two teams and first team to guess wins a point, chocolate bar dressing up game also brilliant, our family Christmas parties were full of games with balloons passing them down a line or running with one to a chair popping it by sitting on it by(underinflated is more amusing as trickier to pop) then back to tag the next person. we also used to play 'pennies in the knees' where a team needed to move a piles of pennies one at a time from one end of the room to a small bucket at the other by popping one between your knees and waddling or hopping to the bucket and dropping it in, hands free!!
