What are you doing for a starter?

We go to my parents for Christmas dinner- dad cooks most of it, but this year some bits have been delegated, and I am doing the starter. Dad usually does smoked salmon or something, but we currently have a non-seafood-eater in our midst.

Any ideas? I'm not a starter-y person, and don't have a clue Grin

like you i have a non sea food eater this year and instead of the usual prawn / seafoody starter I am making goats cheese and caramelised onion tartlets with rocket and balsamic.

Not a big fan or pate personally but thats often a winner for starters?

Some easy ones are:

Parma ham & mozzarella
Parma ham & melon
Mozzarella, basil & tomato
Asparagus wrapped in ham & cheese
Any type of bruschetta: goats cheese/grilled veg/garlic mushroom etc
Mushrooms stuffed with sausage meat & topped with breadcrumbs
Stuffed peppers
Pate & fancy bread

Good luck!

Baked brie w/preserves and a baguette. Super easy.

soup or baked cheese?

Ready made puff pastry rolled out cur into circle (biscuit cutter large), smaller biscuit cutter used to mark but not cut through. Stab small circle with fork.

Put topping of choice on small circle - eg red pesto, green pesto, sliced toms, cheeses, mushrooms, peppers, chorizo - whatever takes you fancy!
Brush outer circle uncovered with beaten egg or milk and bung in oven until outer circle risen and inner toppings cooked - like a cheats large vol-au-vent. Server with some leaves. Can prep in advance.
