Have friends (who normally live overseas) coming for dinner on boxing day, with their two kids. Stuck as to what to serve. We are having goose on Christmas Day and I doubt there will be leftovers. I have a leg of lamb in the freezer but what that be too heavy after Christmas Day? I guess I could do it moroccan style or something rather than a roast dinner as such. Or do you think a cold meats/salad type offering would be better? Any ideas welcome!

Where do they live overseas? Might there be something they find hard to get and would, therefore, enjoy. My sister comes back from UAE and wants to eat nothing but pork. Other overseas relatives miss British bacon, cheddar cheese and pastry.

They live in middle east as well, never thought about the pork thing! I am cooking a gammon joint in coke to have on Xmas Eve, could save it I suppose and do that instead....curry type thing also sounds good but that's what I usually cook when we have guests so I fancied a change.

Cold meats, heated sausages in something honey based, cranberry sauce, a good cheese selection and a variety of salads.

I cook Boxing Day lunch for my extended family. It's always chips and roast meat with peas, gravy and pickles. Pre 3 children I used to do something fancier, but now as the family has grown, easy is the way forward!

My sister craves sausages (good butcher sausages - they only have chicken or turkey ones) pork with crackling, bacon and ham. Why not do a buffet with ham, sausages, cheese, crusty bread (bread from UAE is usually not as good either) and a pudding with cream / custard - also things which are not the same or hard to come by.

slip a pork pie in there too.
