So....our Elf is from Ikea, he only arrived This Monday, with a letter saying he may or may not be back, he is here to "get to know" the DC better to make sure presents are suitable, oh and he may get up to mischief.

Last night we put loo roll round DD tree in her room and sat elf on top, I heard DD wake up coughing in the night, saw Ellie....her voice was filled with wonder " Oh Ellie what have you done" giggle to herself then go back to sleep. In the morning she was so excited by it.

Last night we painted all our noses then put the paint brush and paint by Ellie, she was amazed, she came to whisper to me, " Mummy, your nose is black, we think Ellie did it" giggling and giggling away!

I move it once a day so when she comes in, its moved, I curse it, wishing it would go, say I am worried about it breaking stuff....couldnt have done it all month though but its been such fun. Not sure what else we can do with it now! Xmas Grin

elf in the sink as a bath?

elf pee down the loo? (food colour)

unwrap a cheap selection box from poundshop & sit her among the wrappers?

could she play with some of the dc's toys?

snoozing on the sofa with something scrunched to make elf popcorn...dvd in player & buttons sat next to her?

trying to get into advent calendar day?

Check out Pinterest if you don't mind wasting hours at a time, there are zillions of ideas on there Smile

lucysmam · 19/12/2013 12:07

oops, I read wrong sorry - you have a dd & the elf is a boy Confused

TheXmasLogIn · 19/12/2013 12:29

New things I've done with the elves in our house this year are having them head first in a tube of pringles (empty, nom nom) with crumbs scattered around it. DC were a bit angry there was none left for them though!

Also last weekend we had to get up and go out early. DC couldn't find elves anywhere before we had to leave. Got in the car and the were sitting on a booster, strapped into the passenger seat.

Last night I made an elf tent using a couple of big books then put each elf in a sock (sleeping bag) underneath with a torch.

Tomorrow they will be writing a message in toothpaste on the bathroom mirror. I'm thinking I might get them to grow candy canes from tic tacs over the weekend too.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 19/12/2013 12:37

lucy did you manage to get an Elf for your DC? I had to fight in Ikea to get mine, I was told by two assistants they had sold out when I had seen at least 10 hanging from a display....we have DD and she has named Elf Ellie.

We did the Elf Wee, bath is a good one!

the xmas LOVE the stapped in seat one Xmas Grin and the tent of books....I could in fact pull all books of shelf too and sit Elf on top....

No, I didn't find one Sad Amazon one too pricey atm with us moving & nowhere near me had any in.

I'll order one early on next year so we can do it in our new house though Smile

Gladvent · 19/12/2013 13:35

Sounds really funny! How about elf starts leading some other toys astray? A big drunken toy conga with party poppers etc.

NorbertDentressangle · 19/12/2013 13:45

Have a look at this where some parents recorded what the childrens toy dinosaurs got up to overnight - it might give you some ideas!

I particularly like the 'baking' with broken eggs everywhere.

imnotweirdimlimitededition · 19/12/2013 13:51

I am so enjoying elf on the shelf, all my colleagues and relatives are probably bored with me but ask for updates on his mischief! Putting reindeer antlers and red nose on the car went down very well here with the elf half in half out of letterbox! 2.5 ds saying very little but says elf very excitedly!
An idea from pinterest was hair shearers and elf beside the bed and a chunk of hair cut out of dh's hair. Love it

lucysmam · 19/12/2013 13:52

They're good Norbert. I like the drawing on the walls one...my two would be all Shock Shock

I definitely need an elf!

fanjodisfunction · 19/12/2013 13:57

have ellie change the colour of the milk.

have her enjoying a drink with a dolly like barbie, they can be using straws out of the same drink.

christmas wrap the toilet

agree pinterest is a good place to look for ideas.

jenniferturkington · 19/12/2013 13:58

We are enjoying our elf too. He arrived on Sunday swinging from the Christmas tree. So far he has had a shower (leaving a big pile of wet towels in the shower tray); hung a selection of pants all over the tree; been found in a big pile of Christmas crackers at the breakfast table; and attempted to make a jam sandwich (found with a whole jar of jam emptied on to one slice of bread with a knife in his hand).
Dd (4) is beside herself with joy at his mischief. In fact I think she prefers him being naughty than delivering treats!

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 19/12/2013 15:04

immo LOve that one, with Elf half in and out the letter box!
lucysmam Sad oh no!!!! What a shame. Xmas Sad

like pants over tree....

ours has not delivered any treats....

Its such a joy, my DD came in, and was starting at my nose, then pulled back the curtains and put the light on to try and get a better look...such joj Xmas Grin.

I had one friend post a pic on fb today, her elf did some snow angels in flour on the kitchen work top last night, lol

LoosingBattle · 19/12/2013 16:15

Had snow here overnight so built a little snowman in the freezer and put our elf beside it with his hat and scarf on Grin

LydiaLunches · 19/12/2013 16:27

FB friend drew glasses etc on the photos on the walls with whiteboard pen, which was left by elf, bit too naughty perhaps?!

ISawMamaPizzaKissingSantaClaus · 19/12/2013 16:38

zevite, have a look at my blog. Haven't updated for a couple of days, but will be working on it later again. Loads of ideas for you, many stolen from pinterest. Keeping the better things for the next days, was too tired this week.

winklewoman · 19/12/2013 18:32

I was not keen on elves on shelves until I read your post, ZeVite, but now I wish they had been invented when our DSs were small. As they are now 40 and 42 it is probably too late.... Or maybe not?

farrowandbawlbauls · 19/12/2013 18:54

Get a packet of crisps, empty it (by eating them of course) and put Ellie in halfway, head first with a few crumbs scattered around on the kitchen table.

Get a drywipe pen, draw a picture on the fridge door (it will come off, don't worry) and leave Ellie sat on the floor near the picture with the pen in her lap. Get DD to pass you the milk out of the fridge so she discovers it.

Get an empty jam jar, paint in red little splodges of jam on the inside - put ellie in upside down so her legs are sticking out the top.

Hide Ellie in her underwear drawer, tucked inside a pair of knickers or a sock.

callmekitten · 20/12/2013 03:15

Ours has hung underwear on the tree, changed the computer desktop to a picture of herself, packed a weird school lunch for DD (an onion, bottle of hot sauce, etc), led a parade of Littlest Pet Shop pets down the hall, danced with Duece from Monster High while the Monster High girls look jealously on, switch DD's clothes into different drawers, took a nap in a tissue box, went boating in the kitchen sink in a plastic storage container, and got tied up by toy pirates.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 20/12/2013 09:57

So many wonderful ideas! Ellie was in the flour last night doing snow angels

ContentedSidewinder · 20/12/2013 10:41

My best one yet is to pin the hands of the elf to the curtain (from behind) so it looks like he is climbing up. They won't even touch the curtain for fear of the elf falling.

If you google Elf on a shelf ideas and then hit the "images" button below the search you will see loads of ideas.

I have had mine ride a dinosaur into battle against playmobile nights, sledge in fake snow that the children played with the day before, put him in a tin of roses with a half nibbled chocolate and some empty wrappers around him, hang from light fittings, sit inside shoes, in the fridge with a straw next to the orange juice, inside glasses in the cupboard, roll a toilet roll down the stairs with the elf inside etc.

I love Elf. He hides every day and the children have to find him, even though Ds1 aged 10 knows he is moved by us he still hunts him down with ds2.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 20/12/2013 14:02

I am ELF fan too now, but only for the week, I couldn't be doing with it for a whole month.

We got into bed last night, tired and DH was knackered, baby cried for feed, so DH had to drag out of bed and start messing round with flour at 11.30pm Xmas Grin it was worth it to see DD face but.....a week is enough for us.

Our elf, Elfie, has had a marshmallow fight with other toys which meant there were marshmallows all over the dining table; built a tower and got stuck on top; slept in each of the DCs beds and in mine; slept in the fridge; got stuck in the porch after going for a late night walk; got lots of books out and didn't tidy them away; left biscuits out for DCs and some stuff I can't remember. Tomorrow she'll be making snowmen out of cotton wool balls and hopefully on Sunday will have letters from Santa, if they have all arrived Smile
