Hi,

This is my first post on mumsnet.

I'm on my own for Christmas day, and am wanting to cook a lovely luxurious meal for myself - but I'm struggling for ideas.
I don't want to try and recreate the normal Christmas meal - as it's my first Christmas on my own.

Ideas would be gratefully received!

ooh, the possibilities! If it was me, I would choose all the delicious things that other people in my family make a fuss about eating, and treasure the idea of enjoying them uninterrupted. And keep the cooking simple and light, so that you're not tempted not to bother just for yourself.

What would I have? Perhaps olive and anchovy tapenade and smoked salmon on some really good bread, with vegetable crudités to pick at. Then a piece of fresh tuna griddled, or a really nice piece of steak, with green beans and salad. Pudding? Baked oranges with brown sugar and cream? Or a really good crème brulée if you can find a nice ready made one (too much faff to make yourself without an audience, unless you can do it the day before as a project?).

A nice bottle of wine - you don't have to finish it! And something for afterwards, too, so you can sit with it and nibble nuts and really good chocolate - Madeira, or whatever you love.

Good luck with it - it must be a strange prospect but I'm sure you can make it a lovely day for yourself, and treasure the peace and calm.
