Wii games for DS almost 10 - please help me

Recently DS has had friends round who used to enjoy playing on the wii with him but have got bored after 5 mins. I first thought it was because they had moved on to play stations and xbox. But on reflection, I think it might be the fact we have not bought any new games for ages, maybe even years!

Any suggestions for games to bring us up to date a bit? We have a few of the lego ones - Star Wars, batman etc and some Mario ones. We do have skylanders but when I mentioned to DS that there is a new one out, he said no-one is into skylanders anymore. Same seems to go for Mario.

I know the wii is considered old so things like Minecraft have only been released for Xbox but there must be something fun out there?? Can't afford an xbox this year so any suggestions would be very very welcome

depends on your view of age restrictions, as this is a 12, but my boys have played it for years and I am usually really strict but any battle type game will be.

www.amazon.co.uk/Super-Smash-Bros-Brawl-Wii/dp/B000FQ9R4E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1387391738&sr=8-2&keywords=super+smash+bros+-+brawl+wii

My boys also like Japanese Anime stuff so love these games but again they are rated 12:

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=naruto%20wii&sprefix=naruto+wii%2Caps%2C241&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Anaruto%20wii

and these too:

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_13?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=one+piece+wii&sprefix=one+piece+wii%2Caps%2C155&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aone+piece+wii

they don't like sports games at all apart from some of the olympic type games so they wouldn't enjoy Fifa games, but obviously some children love them.

Sadly I think it's more the fact the Wii is just "soooo ancient" rather than the games on it. I have noticed that DS and his friends don't really use the Wii as a games console anymore, rather they use YouTube or iPlayer as they prefer the iPad or Xbox.
Here minecraft is big news and any platform that does not support it is to be avoided at all costs Xmas Hmm

Soontobeslender - thanks, some fab ideas there. Not sure why I didn't spot any of them on amazon. I'm not too worried about 12 ratings but not keen on some of the wrestling/ call of duty type games that surprisingly (well to me anyhow) lots of boys in his class have which are 16 or 18+
Not sure if I'm being too old fashioned about it all but makes me uncomfortable.

Boo - I'm sure the xbox is way better but sadly it's out of our means this year. Both been made redundant. So trying to make the best of what we have.

From what I have seen, I would equate the linked games to Star wars type where they are battling each other with cartoon type characters rather than the First Person Shooter type games such as Call of Duty etc. As mine are now young teens at High school, I have allowed them to have some 15 and 16 rated games as long as they are fantasy type violent i.e. Orcs and dragons etc rather than human type realistic games. Probably deluding myself but at least I feel I have set a standard :o

Ooh what is orcs v dragons? Running out of time to shop so maybe mad tesco trolley dash

The orcs and dragons wasn't a particular game, I mean they have games involving those e.g. lord of the rings. Just looked and those type all seem to be on ps3. Quick scout of the shelves and can see, raving rabbids games, harry potter games, sonic, dragonball z, star wars. Any of those of interest. The rabbids games tend to be good fun.
