I finished my shopping ages ago but am now panicking (like I do every year), I usually get the dd's one bigish item and lots of small bits bit this year dd1 hasn't really asked for much other than a ds game (cost me £28) and a game boy colour (which cost me £17), I have got her lots of nice little things including fluffy slipper socks, flashing speakers for the computer, pokemon figures and a couple book sets but it just doesn't seem like much compared to what I have bought dd2.

Yesterday dh and I almost caved in and bought a xbox as a joint family gift but I wasn't that keen as dd1 would only use it for minecraft and she already spends too much time glued to the pc or her ds so we decided against it.

Is she going to be happy with lots of little things rather than something big (more expensive)? tbh I think it will be fine and I don't want to go out and buy tat for the sake of it but I'm worried that she wont have much to do on Christmas day other than play her ds. Shes not really into anything other than books and computers (not into arty things).

Sounds good to me. Ds has got a handheld for Christmas too with only a few other bits on top. On previous years we've bought because we thought he might play with things. This year we are going with what we know he'll like.

Iamaslummymummy · 18/12/2013 13:46

Step away from the tat!

Marne · 18/12/2013 13:50

It seems to get harder as they get older, her sister will play with almost anything and loves music, drawing and playing with plastic tat but dd1 spends most of her time on the computer or reading, we thought about replacing our old computer but I don't think she would see that as a present as its like part of the furniture and we all use it Grin. I'm sure she will love what we have got her, I havnt got everything she asked for as she asked for 6 ds games (one is plenty) and the game boy, oh and she asked for fluffy socks so she will be pleased with those. I think I just worry as dd2's pile is going to look a lot more than dd1's but I'm sure it wont matter.

I have also got the twitch. I had a £200 budget and not including books, toiletries or clothes I have only spent £182.36

nappyaddict · 18/12/2013 15:34

I twitched, that's it though now. There was a toy I thought I had already ordered but it turns out I only put it in the basket and must have got distracted so it was something I was planning on buying anyway. £202.26 so close enough to the budget anyway.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 18/12/2013 15:35

What's the age difference between them? If its not that much then it might matter a bit to DD1 that hers seems less.

If DD2 has everything she has asked for them maybe DD1 only having 1 of 3 DS games might seem a bit unfair.

Actually I would get her something else if I were you. I'd get another DS game personally but if you are dead set against that then maybe more books or a onesie or a nice bag or hat / gloves.

Marne · 18/12/2013 15:47

There are 2 years between them. They do have roughly the same number of gifts, its just dd1's gifts are a lot smaller than dd2's.

There are 3 years between my DD1 and DD2 and DD1 would mind a bit if her pike was a lot smaller. A fleece blanket (£5 from Primark) would bulk things up a bit and its fairly useful.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 18/12/2013 16:14

Pile. Not pike!

I have been googling to try and find her another ds game but most of the ones on her list are discontinued and can only get them 2nd hand, too late to buy on ebay Sad, I'm sure she will be ok with the one game! she will get money from relatives so she can buy another game a few days after Christmas! she has a onesie to open and plenty of books.

Not advising you to itch that twitch but Game Boy Colour? Does she have games to play on this already? I'm just curious about why she wants a hand held console that is probably older than she is not because I'm jealous as I never got a GB colour, just the even older black n white model Xmas Grin

Marne · 19/12/2013 18:44

Grin, I have bought her one game to go with the game boy, she has a 3ds and only plays pokemon games (is totally obsessed, she's on the autistic spectrum), she wants the Gameboy to play the old (90's) pokemon games, sadly they cost almost as much as the 3ds games but I managed to get one that isn't in a case for £6 and the Gameboy is boxed (apparently never played with) so have put the game in the box.

I did itch the twitch today, we looked at getting her another pokemon game but decided that 2 games (one for her 3DS and one for the Gameboy) was enough as she gets a lot of play out of one game, so we bought her twister and a pokemon toy that was on offer Smile, hopefully this will make her pile almost the same as dd2's.

Pay day tomorrow so I have got the twitch real bad!!!! Confused

Skang · 19/12/2013 18:51

You could look for 2nd hand games in CEX or somewhere similar? Does Cash Converters still exist? That had old games.

hello fellow Pokemon mother!!

she's got the onesie tho!! you'll have to tell me if she likes it as you know i have got one for my dd also.

do you have a tkmax? I picked up half price Large Pokeball with Pikachu last week in there, 6.99. They also had some figure sets,m which i didn't buy as she has about 100 of the buggers.

Pokemon calendar?

TheXmasLogIn · 19/12/2013 22:27

OP I've had a look through all my old console stuff today and found a few Gameboy games including:

Pokemon Blue
Pokemon Yellow
Pokemon Pinball

If they are any good to you, I am happy to send them and I will be going to the Post Office tomorrow afternoon. Unfortunately they don't have boxes as I never kept stuff like that and I can't say whether they still work as they haven't been played with in years.

Marne · 20/12/2013 14:09

Pirate, I have been going to tk max a couple times a week to look for pokemon, have picked up a few figure packs and pokeballs ( dd2 now wants pokemon too ), last week I went in but then totally forgot which ones I had already got so thought I better not risk buying any more Smile they also had large plush pokemon ( got Snivy ( sp). I think she will love the onesie but she might have to grow into it Smile. CEX are charging £20+ for the games Shock, she can buy some with her Christmas money if she wants any more! I think I have bought her plenty to keep her busy.
